  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

There is a custom penmaker down in SoCal, Atalier Lusso, that I have been a big fan of for some time. His design, fit and finish, etc. are all above and beyond.

My favorite color is green, and I have had my eye on a particlar model from him with green abalone and dark green resin. The pens are made by hand one at a time, so they only become availabe sporadically.

Well, he shared that he was finisheing the model I have been wanting on IG, so I did a thing.

There is a pic that I took and I will include a couple from his IG as well that show how the light catches the abalone much better.

Atalier Lusso
Carina Ragazzone
Deep Green Abalone / Midnight Green Resin
Bronze trim
Medium nib

Just came in... a special edition collab between Radius and Figboot on Pens, a fountain pen content creator on youtube.

How much are they getting for these pens? Just curious. If this question offends, please don't answer.

No worries at all -

The Lusso (Green) was $595. It is one of his bigger models, and I think the abalone adds some scratch to it. They are individually handmade and finished, so they definitely command a premium. The Radius (Blue) was $199. It is similar to models that Radius already makes - the resin color is different and the rainbow hardware and nib are what make it unique.

Got something new in today... it is a Collaboration of Gravitas Pens and Figboot, a YouTube pen guy who does reviews.

It is the Gravitas Bitfrost
Frosted poly with rainbow PVD hardware and accents. It feels good in the hand and has a nice weight to it. I'll get it inked up this weekend!

I just started getting into fountain pens last week. I knew there would be a thread here lol. Picked up a few different pens on Amazon (nicest so far being a cross ATX) and a few different inks. I have a habit of diving head first into new hobbies so this should be great on the bank account

Awesome, and welcome to yet another rabbit hole of epic proportions!

What other pens did you pick up? Did you get Asvine or similar brands from Amazon? And which inks?

Check out the following on Youtube --

He does reviews - everything from multi-hundred or thousand dollar pens to much more reasonable models. He is very thorough and give a lot of detail

Goulet is a retailer and does Q&A videos, reviews of inks and pens, etc. He can be long-winded and get into talking about what is going on in his life, but that is usually at the end and I skip by it.

Enjoy the new hobby! And post pics of your purchases!

Thanks for the resources! I’ve been watching a good bit of doodlebud the last few days so I’ll have to give the others a look.

I think the rest of what I ordered comes in today so I’ll make a post with some pictures and list everything out then.

Great selections!

Really as for pens, there are tons at every budget level. Aside from the overall design there are some differences that you will start to notice with nibs and how they write. Some are very smooth - like glass - and others have more feel to them from the paper. Also they can have different amounts of flex or "bounce" to them. You may have a preference for a nib size now, but still branch out and get different sizes so you have a variety - a lot depends on your writing. TWSBI makes some great pens that are cool to look, write well, and are quite easy to maintain. The Lamy Safari is another popular one.

Inks are another complete rabbit hole lol... really just get a bunch - some may behave better in certain pens than other. Diamine makes some great colors, but so so a lot of the major manufacturers. I like a lot of Robert Oster , Anderilium, Colorverse, etc et etc... My favorite color families tend to be greens, blue-greens, and oranges.

I always enjoy being at a meeting with students, parents, the teachers, etc... when the sheet comes around for everyone to sign, I flick the ballpoint away in disgust and sign with some crazy ink color hahahaha!

I actually just picked up a TWSBI Diamond 580 last night along with a couple more inks from goulet pens. I’m looking forward to getting a couple pens on the nicer side here soon the Lamy 2000 looks super slick and would be great for work.
