Well, with fountain pens comes fountain pen cleaning…. Never a dull moment I guess hahaha

On the bright side, have a TWSBI broad nib inked up with this crazy Kiwi Inks Quetzalcoatl, and my other TWBI with the custom ground Architect nib inked up too…. Lots of writing to do at work this week…

I'm not big into inks with shimmer (Sparkle) because the little bits in the the ink can clog the pen pretty easily. One of my favorites is Quetzalcoatl by Kiwi Ink... I use it in a broad nib to really show the color variation and shimmer. I was getting the pen ready at work and a large drop of it plopped on to the pad I was working over... check out the color variation and the big glob of shimmer in the middle... the ink is a pain in the ass, but does look really cool on paper when writing with it...

I’m wanting to pick up a Visconti Rembrandt but looking around online I’ve been seeing some not great things about their steel nibs. Can anyone speak to that issue? If it’s as easy as a nib swap I’m also open to recommendations.

I haven't written with one, but have heard mixed reviews as well. I did a little looking and you should be able to swap out the whole nib unit with another #5 nib unit.

Are you particular to the deisgn or are you looking at others in the general price range? You could get into a Pilot Custom 74 or Vanishing Point for a few bucks more with the added extra of going to a gold nib?

If I decide to pick one up I’ll probably order another nib unit just to be safe then.
The design is what really got me with it. The Custom 74 has also been on my radar so I might just go with that and save a potential $180 headache for another day. Thanks for the insight!

I’ve been going back and forth between this custom 74 and my Twisbi Diamond (inked with Levenger Forest) lately. Both pens have been fantastic. What are you guys writing with right now?

Nice!

I have a few inked up at work, so no pics handy... right now it is a TWSBI Eco Glow with a custom ground Architect Nib. I also typically keep a Lamy Safari and Kaweco Sport inked as well. I work at a high school so don't usually bring the upper tier pens to work that often.

Just saw Figboot's review of the Asvine C80 - a cheap (sub $30) pen that punches wayyyy above its weight. They write pretty amazingly! And I love that they have a big #8 nib.

Here is what I just picked up:

Figboot's review:

Where did you pick up the custom nib unit or did you have it sent off to be worked on?

I actually picked up a C80 a few months ago and it writes like a dream! I’ve been thinking about picking up another one in a different color and nib size.

I bought the TWSBI from Marc Bacas at NibGrinder.com and him do the Architect grind... With me printing with block caps most of the time, that grind really suits my writing.

There are a ton of well known Nibmeisters that can hook you up - I'm going to look into getting something done from Gena at Custom Nib Studio next.
