You need to get married to someone, and share housing expenses. When you do that, have the other guy sell his house, and give the money to you, then you sell your house and upgrade to the next level.

right on, once he accepts, look at how much both of your houses will sell for, and the money you both have currently. once you have enough for a bigger house, sell both properties and bank the money quick. Then you can transfer funds between your accounts. then one person goes and buys a house. Be sure anytime you have money on the table, you are acting quickly so no one mugs you. If you 4 mil out there, you could 3-500k on a sigle attack.
