  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

vitola is the shape of the cigar...

corona
robusto
churchhill
etc

are vitolas

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitola_de_galera
Vitola refers to the unique description of a cigar. Two cigars of the same vitola have similar measurements and form. For instance, a "Julieta" vitola refers to a cigar of measurements 7 * 47 (or, a length of 7 inches and a diameter of roughly 47/64ths an inch). Therefore, the Cohiba Esplendido, the Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill, the Bolivar Churchill, and the La Gloria Cubana Tainos are all Julieta vitolas.

I started another Excel inventory system last night. I did it for ordering purposes. For some reason, I thought I was getting low. :scratchhe After an hour, I realized I have more than I did this time last year (and I smoked over 600 cigars in 2008).

My inventory is very simple:

Name of cigar
Number of cigars (Boxes and singles are differentiated)
Box code or when purchased

I keep inventory and I don't. I have a box of about 30-50 smokes not inventoried with an assortment of what I may want any given time. I also have an inventory I keep very accurate in two large humidors of about 1000 cigars. The grab box gets filled when it gets low and I adjust the inventory down all in one shot. I have detailed notes about how things are smoking, reminders of when to try sticks I've set back for more aging, what I paid, etc. I find it easy to keep up and I don't damage very many cigars rumaging around looking for this or that, each has its location detailed down to the tray or box it's stored in.

LOL, pretty funny, I just spent about five minutes looking at my "Cigarvintory" as I have it labeled and it's amazing how different my actual inventory is right now compared to that list from about a year ago when I quit using it. VERY different.

I recently started using Cigar Briefcase. It works well and being free is a bonus!

I had one a ways back. Didn't care how much money was tied up inside the humidor -- they're very liquid assets -- but what got me was how much $$$$$ I was smoking up every damn month!!!
Now I prefer to just not think about it!

I'm normally pretty anal about stuff like this, but in this case I don't keep an inventory, at least not yet. I do keep my collection highly organized, though.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet similar to some of the other brothers (name, size, wrapper, vitola, origin, quantity). I've had it going for over 6 years and it helps me remember not only what i have, but what I have tried (I've tried over 2500 different cigars - including sizes). I also scan the bands in and put them next the line for the cigar name.
I 've had to recently split my spreadsheet into quarters as the file was getting so big (and long) that it was locking up a lot.

I used to keep a running total of the boxes I've purchased. Then I got lazy and stopped. It wasn't really an inventory but more of a look what I bought to myself and a reminder of what I might have on hand. I never removed things when they were gone I don't think an well I just forgot about it. I mostly know what I have. Plus if I find something I didn't know I had after a long time it's like finding a $20 bill in your pocket.

i jsut started making a new excel for my inventory.

It's patterned after the one i had on my computer at the place i used to work that i no longer work at. It had

Qty
Brand
Size
Date it came into my posession or Known box date
Price
Edxtended price.

Like wade, my wife wasn't too happy when she saw the bottom line figure, but that quicly changed when i lost my job and considered my smokes as a liquid asset.

My new spreadsheet doesnt' include pricing...yet.

I find it useful for knowing how old a cigar is before i smoke it. I tend to forget things like that.

I don't keep an inventory. I know a roundabout number of what/how many boxes I have. Now for singles, I have no clue!
