BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

For some reason, the humidity in my humidor has been fluctuating between 61% and 70%.
I have twice the amount of 65% RH beads needed for the volume in the humidor, so I don't understand why it's moving that much. That much movement won't cause any damage, will it?
I haven't tested the hygrometer accurately, 'cause maybe I keep screwing up the salt test somehow?

I need to buy a boveda calibration kit, because I don't know what's going on in my desktop. The digital hygro reads 56%, I salt-tested it a month ago and it was 3% off, which means it SHOULD be right at 59%RH, but the 69% boveda pack (69% instead of 65% cause the humidity always reads low) has been in there for a week and is not close to being dry, AND the cigars are smoking like they're in the mid-60% range.
So I've got one thing saying I'm below 60%, another telling me I'm pretty darn close to spot-on 65%, and yet another suggesting I'm upwards of mid-60%'s.

Cigar Oasis XL and 1lb. of 65% beads works very well for my main cigar storage set-up.

You use an XL in a cooledor?
That setup would be called "Overkill" for my little desktop. Actually, I don't think I could even fit a pound of beads in my humi and still have room for more than 2 cigars stacked on top of each other.

65% beads is all I use
I actually just got myself some 65% hum. beads. Before that I was just using the 50/50 solution. It was working fine (about 62% to 68%), cant complain about that but I wanted something a little more stable. I was checking it 2 to 3 times a day. Hopefully I can cut that down to 1 time a day with the beads. The only thing I have to worry about down here is the temp. My GF likes the temp of the house around 76 but I perfer it at 72 and my cigars love it at 70. So that is my biggest challenge, keeping a good temp.
ive been trying to get the humidity up all winter and just now im getting back to where i dont need to add water everyday. for the last week my hygro has read 58%. and its 5 clicks off so its actually 63%. but i know as summer gets into full swing, ill be battling high RH. gonna have to dry beads out with a hairdryer. (RH here as we speak is only about 37%)
I rarely have problems keeping the humidity down but do have probems with it wanting to get too dry in the winter since I heat a lot with a woodstove. My summer problem is the temp getting too high. There's a cooled cabinet in my future.
