  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

It's finally happened

I went out yesterday, Sunday, for a smoke with a good friend. B&M is closed, so that's out. Eventually, we land at an O'Charley's Restaurant. Nice place, pretty comfortable.

But it happened. First time for me. Manager comes up, 15 minutes after we light Punch coronas (yes, the CC's) and "politely" requests that we put them out.:argue:

You should have seen my friend- he had her fumbling for a good minute. She wound up eating the bill for our drinks, and we went outside. I made sure to take several GOOD puffs before we walked out- cigars still lit.:cbig: Pisses me off. There were people SMOKING CIGARETTES while we were having this little confrontation.

I was so stunned that I completely forgot to use the whole "supporting the children" argument.:sadcry: I just finished up my official complaint to O'Charley's. :angerFU:

I whipped out a stick on Fri night at my favorite place to light up a smoke when it's too cold and I was warned not to light it up. When I asked how long the rule had been in effect the waitress said about a month....the amount of time since I was last there.

The girl I took out on a date thought it was funny that her and I were allowed to light up black and milds but not a quality cigar. Ohh the humanity of it all!

I had that happen to me before the total smokin ban went into effect (bout 2 years ago). I was at the local pizza place chillin with a few buddys waiting for our friend and his guitar teachers band to start the friday night concert. So we order our pizza and drinks and light up some nice stoogies ( i had a padron). We are about 20 mins into the smokes and long before the pizza came, when the manager comes up. He comes at us at full speed with his finger a' pointin. He says " you kids better put out those cigars right now or you can somewhere else". I look around and notice that there is a haze from cigarettes and who knows what else was being smoked. I try to talk the situation down but he insist we put out the smokes so we ditched em. We almost left but the band was startin up and we really wanted to stick around for our buddy. The show turned out to be freakin awesome.

I usually smoke at home, friends houses, cigar shops or this one bar I stop by occasionally. So let me get this straight, there are bans against cigar smoking in places that allow cigarette smoking?

the excuse i was given at the pizza place was people could be allergic..... didnt make sense to me

That's the most asinine thing I've ever heard. 2nd-hand smoke is the same regardless of the source, the only difference being that cigar smoke smells better!!

The mindset is that cigars produce SO much more smoke than cigarettes, but considering you only take a puff every minute or so, I really don't think that's even true. But even if it was...would they make me stop if I chain-smoked a whole pack of cigs? No, they wouldn't.

It's total hypocrisy.

Next time they try the allergic thing tell them to have people put out there cigarettes because you are deathly allergic to the Cellulose Acetate used in cigarettes. It is actually gust used for the filter, but they will not know.

Just an FYI, in its fiber form (made from cotton) it was used to make dice.

OMG, I know I'm the kettle calling the pot black, but I just can't tolerate cloves. We have two guys at our Tuesday poker game that smoke them and the smell totally overpowers the other 6 guys cigars. Blechhh :barf:
I am not to fond of people smoking cigs around me when I have a cigar burning, but I never say anything. And if I am not smoking one, I still never say anything unless they are blowing it in my direction.

Having said that, I would not sit and play poker with some one smoking a clove stick.

I've made it a point to know ahead of time the places that are cigar friendly. Hell as strange as this is one of the nearby bars allows cigar smoking. When the owner was asked to force someone to put out their cigar or leave he said "well he was here first so if you don't like it then leave the bar I know you're regular customers but he was here first so deal with it". The couple complaining were smoking cigarettes mind you.
