I have been reading so much on here about Latakia and the frog morton brand of pipe tobacco so when I was at Boswells a couple weeks ago I asked to see and smell some. HOLY CRAP, I couldn't believe the smell of that stuff. I felt like I just held my head in a wood fire for half an hour and then took a huge inhale. Don't get me wrong, I love the smell of a good camp fire, I just could not believe the smell of that stuff. The guy at Boswells said that knowing what I usually smoke, I probably would not like it. He gave me a free sample and I bought a tin of Frog Morton original. I finally got some time to try it 2 nights ago and I must say.... I was impressed. It doesn't taste anything close to the way it smells. it was a very good smoke and I really enjoyed it. the only complaint is; I think I need to let it dry out a bit cause I must have lit that bowl 15 times. I must say though, I did like it and it will be in my bowl in the future.

I'm definitely becoming a Latakia-ophile. Love the Syrian kind specifically (though Cyprian is very good as well, just a little different). I'm finding that blends classified as "Balkan" (which normally contain lots of Latakia & Orientals with some Virginia) are ones that really stand out to me. McClelland makes quite a few Lat-heavy blends that I personally love.

Check out this article on Latakia from GL Pease:

Russ's definition of a little bit is scary.

What are you implying kind sir?

I have smoked it. It's pretty good. Smooth and heavy but
Nothing implied other than you are very generous on your end of trades. Deny it?
I just like to share LOL.

Ok here is a breakdown of how I measure...

I have enough = 7 pounds or more
I have some = less than 7 more than 5
I need more = less than 5 more than 3
I have little bit = less than 3 more than 1.5
I'm out = Under a 1.5 pounds.
