Have you considered putting a piece of 1/4 inch glass to protect the bottom from getting burned? Looks damn good, it would be hell to get it burned up.
I am probably going to go the bar top epoxy resin route. I would be worried glass could shatter if the tray is dropped and then you would have a worse problem then a burn mark. This was just something I threw together on a whim so more of a learn as you go type experience.

Hell. Nice coats on there ! Put 'er in service and replace the bottom plate when need be.
I probably have ~6 ashtrays lying around already. No need to dirty it up just yet.

Started on a new one as well. Needs several more coats of finish and a couple sandings in there but I like the colors so far.
