  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Ugh.. sniffle sniffle

I caught the bug. I am on a high Vit C regiment right now trying to counter act the cold i picked up from the kids. I was going to smoke our #1 stick yesterday after the game, but after the halftime smoke, I figured it would be a waste of time. I had a El Mejor Espresso, and it tasted like cardboard. So did my beer and my dinner. I'm out of commission for a few days it would seem, but I'll get it done before the 14th.

Appearance: 12/15
The wrapper on the cigar was predominantly dark brown, but became lighter towards the veins on the cigar. I would say it was a veiny cigar, but not too extreme. The only part I was disappointed at for appearance was the cap. It looked like an amateur put it on.

Ash: 10/10
The Ash was very sturdy on the cigar and I tapped it off just about 2 inches down. The color was more white than grey, and had very few flakes.

Burn: 4/10
Inconsistent would be a great way to describe to burn. It was off (one side was burning faster than the other) at the beginning, but right at the 1/3 mark it was razor sharp. No inconsistencies at all. I started to get excited because everything about this cigar was starting to shape up and tasting great. Then after the 2/3 mark to the finish it got very inconsistent and went out on me a couple of times. I ended up putting it out earlier than I wanted b/c of the burn.

Draw: 10/10
The draw was perfect, just slightly deliberate allowing me to get a great amount of smoke in each puff, but not overwhelming when it was not being drawn.

Smoke: 10/10
The smoke in this cigar was amazing. Every puff I took gave me a mouthful of smoke. As for the color of the smoke, who the hell cares?

Flavor: 15/20
There was nothing really special about the flavors in this cigar. I was able to pull out a chocolate and nuttiness throughout the smoke. The start of the cigar was bolder than the middle, but got a little harsh towards the end. This was probably cause by the relighting, more than the cigar itself. There was a little bit of ammonia still in this cigar and would probably be much better in about 6 months.

Uniqueness: 6/10
Like I stated before, there was no real wow factor in this cigar. It was good, but not great. The flavors stayed pretty constant, but never overbearing. I would consider the beginning and end of this cigar a medium to full bodied cigar, but in the middle it was definitely medium. The middle of the cigar was by far the best part. The flavors, burn and smoke all complemented each other. If this cigar continued this way I would have been very impressed, but it went downhill really fast.

Finish: 12/15
The finish to the cigar was not too bad. Even though the last part of the cigar was harsh, this did not stay with me very long. In fact, as I’m typing this I can still taste the tobaccos with subtle hints of nuts.

Overall Score: 79
This was not a bad cigar, but also was not a great cigar. I would probably smoke it again, but would let it rest for a few months before attempting to light it.

Ok, here we go. My first review.

Appearaance: 13/15
The wrapper had a nice look to it. The darkness with a schene of lightness looked very nice. The veins were definitely in play on this cigar. They even stood out in the ash. As for the cap, it looked like a bandaid was thrown over the end of it.

Ash: 10/10

Definetely a tough one. Held it's ground for almost 3 inches. I had to sacrifice it at that point so that I didn't burn the seats in the wifes new car. Plus my cousin was getting nervous because I was taking pictures of the ash while I was driving. I would have added it, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Burn: 6/10
Had a decent start, easily lit and ran smooth for about 1/2 inch. Started to run from there for about 3/4 inch before I rescued it. From there on it ran smooth as silk. Ran it down to about 1 inch. With exception to the minor startup problem, it burned well.

Draw: 10/10

I originally thought that the draw might be a little tough based on the look that it was fairly fresh and the tightness of the roll. Absolutely no complaints about the draw. Was pleased with the amount of smoke drawn without straining. Did not seem wet, until the bitter end.

Smoke: 10/10

Plenty to go around. The smoke was very full with a tint of green.

Flavor: 14/20

Here's where I have a problem. This smoke was a little weird. The first 2-3 inches were very pleasing. I tasted some chocolate and a slight nut, maybe nutmeg taste. I was very pleased. From there on the taste started getting deeper and deeper until the bitter end.

Uniqueness: 7/10

I really liked the look of this cigar. I also appreciated the taste at the beginning along with the smoke and burn. The cap needs work.

Finish: 10/15

That is the bummer for this one. The finish. For me, the end of this cigar got a little overbaring. But I made sure I ran it out so that I could give a full review. I might have cashed it in at about 2/3's otherwise.

Overall Score:80

I really like the look and burn of this smoke. What killed it for me was the ending. This would have been an excellent cigar if it would have held it's taste. I would pass on these.

It was nice up til that certain point. Maybe they need some time to cure a little towards the head. I dunno.

So how do you get this cigar? And what is it? Or was it some sort of cigar pass to just a select few? I'd love to get in on one of these things...several people smoking the same thing and posting reviews.

Let me know, i'm interested. Pick me! Pick me!
