Cigar #3
This was an impressive cigar. Very solid construction and nice aroma.

Appearance: Great looking perfecto. Solid, nicely rolled without noticeable problems: 14/15
Ash: Solid ash, not flaky. silver/grey held for 2 1/2 inches before i knocked it off.
9/10

Draw: Effortless draw. A good roll and fill. I have no complaints.
9/10

Burn: It's hard to get a good light on a perfecto, but this one got to a straight burn before it got passed the taper. I had one problem with the burn about 1/2 way through, but it corrected itself.
9/10

Smoke: Ample smoke which was surprising because the draw didn't seem that loose, but big clouds were produced. Nice aroma to it, slightly woody.
10/10

Flavor/Blend: I really enjoyed the profile of this cigar. I could pull a lot of tea out of the blend. The tea flavor was there from the first time I lit it to well after I out it down. There were muted flavors the accentuated the tea profile, but nothing that I could easily identify.
17/20

Uniqueness: I've only had this profile in a small handful of cigars. I wonder if there is a reason for that, but I would have to say that it's more uncommon than unique.
8/10

Finish: The finish on the cigar was very long. I had the taste of it long after I put the cigar down and went upstairs to watch the nightly news. I am really glad I enjoyed the profile, helped the experience that much more.
14/15

Conclusion: I can dig this cigar. I like the perfecto shape more than all others and this one was a homerun in my opinion. I want to say it's a Dominican cigar from Henke Kelner, but there are so many other plays on the palate that it really is hard to say for certain.

Overview: I smoked this cigar down by the bay after school before heading home. The kids were on play dates, so I was good for a couple of hours!!! This was a very nice looking perfecto that was firm to squeeze. The aroma was a bit sweet when I breathed deep at the foot. I was encouraged by the smells, so I cut the head with my SAK and away we went.

Appearance: As I said in the overview, this was a fine looking perfecto. The wrapper looked to be a Connecticut Shade wrapper, light in color and very smooth and leathery to the touch. The cap was well made and there were no major veins running down the wrapper. All in all very appealing visually.
15/15

Ash: The ash was a very light gray and it was flaky and papery. It fell off at about the two inch mark, but was pretty firm.
9/10

Draw: The prelight draw was pretty good, not too loose and not too firm. After the first inch or so, the draw opened up a bit but it wasn't too loose at all. I didn't feel like I had to concentrate on smoking slowly at all.
9/10

Burn: The burn was very crooked at the beginning but it straightened out on its own after the first inch. I did not have to touch the cigar up at all. This was a well constructed cigar.
9/10

Smoke: The cigar produced a nice body of smoke. There wasn't an overwhelming amount of smoke however. I would have liked a bit more smoke at the beginning, but just before the halfway point it opened up and I got more volume of smoke. I'm not exactly sure why as this did not coincide with the time the draw opened up. But nevertheless, I like getting more smoke during the second half.
8/10

Flavor/Blend: I was quite impressed not only with the flavor profile, but also of how consistant throughout the entire cigar the flavor was. It barely changed during the entire hour and a half that I smoked this cigar. There was a mild musty flavor to the cigar that wasn't displeasing at all. I also got a note of what came across to me as mint, (maybe that's the same tea flavor that Rob got.) I would classify this as a mild to medium bodied cigar but still flavorful. I would make this the first cigar of the day as other more powerful cigars would be too much for this later in the smoking day. I enjoyed this cigar very, very much.
18/20

Uniqueness: I've had cigars before that were similar to this flavor profile. I think it is a very distinctive profile. (watch my guess be totally off base!) So I guess that makes it pretty unique.
9/10

Finish: The finish on the cigar was loooong with woody notes and very pleasant on the palet. I did notice that after I was completely finished with the cigar and I was driving home, an odd metallic taste came up. But other than that, very nice!
14/15

Conclusion: This was a very nice cigar that was "right in my wheel house" for cigars that I like. It was well constructed and visually appealing. All in all, this was a wonderful smoking experience and this is a cigar I would go out and buy to smoke. I think it is Dominican, and I have a hunch as to what it is. Thanks for picking this cigar!!!!

I smoked mine the other night. My overall impression of this cigar was just ok. The flavor was one dimensional to me. It reminded me of one of the Matasa Perfectos, except that this one was a natural wrapper.

Although the draw wasa initially restricted, I was still able to smoke it. Once I hit the barrel, I had no problems. Decent smoke, but again the flavor was too mild for me.

I rated this one as a 77. Just did not do it for me.

On a side not, I am purposely not doing my normal review styles, since I won the last review contest. Besides, the competition is really good this time! hehe.

Nice reviews, guys! I smoked this one about a week ago, and I took detailed notes, but I haven't written anything up yet. At the time, I also noted the distinct black tea taste that Rob mentioned. This was an interesting cigar. I'll get my full review up soon.

REVIEW DETAILS

APPEARANCE: 14/15
This cigar is a true beauty. The shape is inviting to hold, the wrapper
is silky smooth, and there's nary a vein to be seen. The aroma isn't
very pronounced, but it does smell quite sweet, a bit like caramel.

ASH: 9/10
The ash is a very light gray with minimal dark banding. Solid and firm,
it holds on for a surprising length--about 2 inches to the first ash drop.

DRAW: 10/10
I clipped about what I normally do on perfectos--about 1/4", which
created approximately a 1/2" open head on this stick. The draw with
that size cut seems just right, with no strenuous puffing required.

BURN: 10/10
No burn issues at all with this cigar, even with such a small, tight
foot due to the perfecto shape. It lights easily and burns true
throughout--no touchups required.

SMOKE: 10/10
Really nice, almost sweet smoke from this cigar. This is the kind of
cigar smoke my wife likes my cigars to make--what I'd call a "crowd
pleaser", as opposed to the more common coal fired smoke stack
type of cigar smoke.

FLAVOR: 18/20
The initial light on the small foot produces a deep woody tone with
a nice honey sweetness. As the foot burns and opens up, the flavors
open up as well, gaining a beautiful floral quality and a nutty
creaminess on the the palate that remain throughout. This cigar has
such a wide range of delectable, sweet flavors that the sheer variety
should please anyone, even those who typically smoke bold, full
bodied sticks. The only negative is that the flavors don't seem to
change once they settle in.

UNIQUENESS: 6/10
Unfortunately, while this pleasing cigar exhibits expert flavor blending,
it's not particularly unique or distinctive. There are a multitude of
flavorful yet mild cigars on the market, particularly in the USA. If the
flavors weren't so well put together, it would be far more commonplace.

FINISH: 13/15
The finish on the final third of this cigar is quite nice, with a stronger
flavor delivery than before, but the flavor profile doesn't change much.
That's both good and bad; it shows great consistency, but lacks a bit of
excitement.

TOTAL: 90 Points

PS - I have no idea what this cigar might be, but I'd bet it's a Dominican blend.

Yeah, I couldn't place it at all, either.

I will say that my tongue says it's a blend of Dominican tobaccos with a Connecticut wrapper...but who knows, I could easily be way off.

Cigar #3

1. Appearance: This was a very well constructed Perfecto. It had a clean smooth wrapper. It looked like maybe a Connecticut. The cap was well bonded and very even. There was a sweet, grassy smell to it. 15/15

2. Ash: Nice looking white to light grey ash. Was a little weak though. It fell off around 1 inch or so. 8/10

3. Draw: The draw on this cigar was a little on the tight side for me. It was tolerable though. 8/10

4. Burn: This beauty had and awesome burn. It was straight as an arrow and never needed to be corrected. 9/10

5. Smoke: Good amount of smoke. It had a great aroma and lingered around nicely. This was a good pick because it was ok with the wife and is on the approval list for in the house smoking. 9/10

6. Flavor: Not much to mention in the flavor area. It was a very mild smoke. It was on the earthy side. There were no spicy hints or anything. It stayed the same through the whole smoke. From everything else I noticed about this cigar it was a little disappointing. 15/20

7. Uniqueness: This was just a nice looking cigar. It was a little to tame and not very complex at all. 7/10

8. Finish: This stick had a nice consistent finish. It never got bitter or anything. I smoked it right up to my fingers without any change. 13/15

Appearance - This was a bueatiful cigar. Personally I am a huge fan of the perfecto shaped cigars, besides that, the wrapper was flawless. 15/15

Ash - This cigar held a good ash. It did not flake of fall off early. As for color, it was a light grey. 10/10

Draw - The draw on this cigar was perfect, slightly deliberate, but not tight. I wish all my cigars were rolled as well as this one. 10/10

Burn - The burn was good on this cigar, I did need to touch it up a little bit towards the later half of the cigar, but that was probably more do to the fact I ran out of cogac and was looking for another drink. 8/10

Smoke - Can't complain here, this cigar had a great amount of smoke everytime I took a draw. 9/10

Flavor - This was a mild cigar, but I was kind of expecting that before hand. It had a lot of grassy and hay flavors. I thought it was great and would be a very good morning cigar. 18/20

Uniqueness - This was a great cigar to smoke and it was different than most of the smokes I have. 7/10

Finish - What's to complain about with this finish. It stayed with you for a little while after the smoke, then boom...could not tell I had just smoked a cigar. Never got bitter and to only down side to the cigar was the rum I opened after my first drink was done. 15/15

Overall - This was a great cigar if you are looking for a light smoke, but probably not the one you want after a heavy meal. I give this smoke a 92 overll score.

Review Cigar #3

Appearance (12/15): Cigar #3 was a solidly constructed perfecto measuring about 6.2x52. The wrapper was a rather ordinary claro, dry in appearance, and not tremendously appealing. The only notable construction flaw was a small patch of missing wrapper. This did not affect the draw or burn.

Ash (10/10): As the pictures show, the ash was excellent. It was light gray in color, and held solidly for over 2 inches at a time.

Draw (10/10): Due to their tapered head and foot, it's not uncommon for perfectos to be afflicted with draw issues. Fortunately, that was not the case here. The draw was perfect through the tightly tapered foot, and remained consistent throughout.

Burn (9/10): The burn was even. Perhaps not razor sharp, but no touchups were required.

Smoke (9/10): The smoke was dense and pleasant.

Flavor/Blend (17/20): Pre-light, the cigar had a mild, clean tobacco aroma with floral hints. The first third of the cigar was bright and crisp, with floral and fruit flavors. There was a dry, somewhat leathery, tannic aftertaste. In the second third, the leather and tannic flavors became more prominent. Black tea dominated the flavors. The taste was rather unusual at this point. The tannic black tea flavor continued in the final third, and was joined by subtle hints of orange zest.

Uniqueness (9/10): I haven't smoked a cigar quite like this before. I don't see myself smoking this as an everyday cigar, but I think this would be a fantastic cigar to smoke after eating a large helping of spicy Indian food.

Finish (13/15): The tannic flavors continued to linger after the cigar was done. The aftertaste was surprisingly strong, but oddly pleasant.

Total Score: 89/100

Okay guys here we go... Like I said before I dont have my review up yet, because it is in San Antonio and I am in Mexico. A lot of you guys had some good guesses on this one. But in the end we smoked the Davidoff Club Humidor 10th anniversary figurado. This was a 500 box production for my local B&M in San Antonio. It was released in October, and has been around since then. They had about 70 boxes left at the time I purchased these in April, but when I went in there before I left they said they had finally sold out. :-( Cheers guys I hope you enjoyed, and again Im sorry for not having my review up, but It will be there in a week.
