  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Finally installed the kill switch for the fans when the door is opened.

Updated original post with a couple pics.

Looks great...Nice attention to detail, and obvious pride in your work.

Someone else may want to chime in here, but....I think 4 fans in such a small space may be TOO much air moving over your cigars.

I have an Avallo 2000 with only 4 fans...And it's like 3 times the size/capacity of your unit!

Again...No expert, but don't want you to risk moving too much air over your smokes :)

Thanks man, it's been a fun project...can't wait to see it finished whenever my chasidor stuff comes in.

As for the fans, I know its overkill, but they aren't running constantly. They are on a timer set to run for a few minutes every hour. With my setup, the killswitch was somewhat unnecessary as well, but that was kinda the whole theme of this build...OVERKILL & EXCESS!!!

While waiting for the unit to arrive, I've been planning/purchasing some needed items.

Already here:
Edgestar 28 Bottle Wine Cooler
2 Chasidor cedar shelves
Ranco ETC (Temp Controller)
Computer case fans...(I'm going "blingy" here...you'll see)
DC Power supply (for above mentioned fans)
Digital On/Off Timer for fans
1.5 lbs of 65% Shilala Beads (Probably get another 1/2 lb later for good measure)
2 HygroSet Adjustable Digital Hygrometers (also from Shilala)

Ordered or on the way:
Chasidor Trays (2 single, 2 double)

Still to come:
Magnetic sensors (Door kill switch for fans)

Hey looks like a great setup. What model of Ranco ETC and specs do you reccomend I purchase. I went to their website and they have single stage and double stage, keep in mind that unlike yourself that I am not an electrical guru, thanks

This is the one you should use as it comes prewired, so its pretty much plug and play. Just a matter of placing the temp sensor where you want it and setting up the unit with your temp range.

did you find a good deal on the edgestar or the standard deals on the internet?
I was waiting for the open box deal on compactappliance.com to come up when my wife told me to just go ahead and pull the trigger...a week later the open box deal came back up...oh well.

Got an order update email this weekend from Chasidor. My order status changed from "Payment Received" to "Processing Order". According to his website, my order should be completed this week (maybe next week).

I'm gonna estimate 3 more weeks, but at least the time is drawing near...my Edgestar will FINALLY be complete!!!

I Purchased 1 1/2 pounds of the Shilala beads but rhe RH is only at 59%. I purchased the Edgestar last week, let it air out then placed 1 1/2 lbs of beads in the unit and turned the temp to the warmest setting . The temp is around 60F while the RH is at 59%. I have even tried to increase the RH by placing several sponges soaked in distilled water in the unit.

Do you think I need more beads or is the cooler temp of 60F keeping RH low?

2 questions first:

1) Is your hygro calibrated?
2) How long are you leaving the sponges in the cooler?
It can take a bit for the beads to soak up the moisture and bring the rh up.

That being said...the cooler the environment, the lower the rh will be.

Take a unit that is sitting at 70 degrees/65% rh...if you lower the temp to 60, the rh will drop as well.

My unit is pretty stable at around 64-68%, but I have seen it as high as 70% and as low as 60%. With any type of cooling, you are going to get fluctuations depending on whether the unit is on or off.
