Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
Or do what I have done when you are thinking of weighing in on a heated discussion... write out what you are thinking. Wait a few minutes and read it again. Then decide if it really needs to be posted. I find myself deleting most of what I write out in those situations because it doesn't add anything to the conversation.OK. Stop with the drama folks. We are having shades of last year. Thank god its not as bad, but it has the potential. Pete hated the drama last year, so take some advice, act like adults, stop whining and help your brothers if you are lucky. I am sure that someone will get an extra box or extra cigars and help folks out. Just relax and breathe.
Personally, its just a cigar that turns to ash. Let Pete handle his business, you handle yours.
I might suggest that this thread get moved to the other area!
10 count boxes if I remember correctly.Tobacco supply isn't why they are limited. They are limited for the sake of being limited, because it builds buzz around the brand.
He has stated many times that the verite brand is basically the only LE stick he couldn't make again.
They aren't bundles, by the way, they are just in plain boxes.
Yepp.10 count boxes if I remember correctly.
The Verite is so different for so many ways... But the use of Pelo de Oro and the single field combined with Pepin's alleged hesitancy to use PdO again make it much harder.Tobacco supply isn't why they are limited. All but one or two aren't taking names down right now. And one shop guarantee's a box if you buy another one.okay, i just woke up today--are these retailers making lists or what? Should I bother calling around or is it too late for that?
Great post Bryan. I was one of the many that called you today and you guys certainly know how to make a caller feel welcome. Keep up the good work!Just wanted to make a few points as a manager at one of the 'Unlucky 13.' As you might imagine, we haven't had a lot of time to read every thread on this or any other forum, but a few things have come up which we feel need addressing.
1. It is a great honor to be one of the 13, but it is also quite a responsibility. This is not something that has a precedent. It can be tough enough managing allotments with rare cigars. Typically there is huge demand for the limited supply. The Monsters from Tatuaje take this to another level entirely. I would wager that most of the stores involved are dealing with this more or less on the fly. As such, policies have to be arrived at that do not apply to anything we've seen before. To those policies:
2. Waiting lists. I don't know who does or does not have a waiting list policy, or whatever other thing a retailer can come up with, but it seems sensible to us. I'm sure most stores are taking care of their local/regional customers (additionally, if the store is also a lounge, the members sign up with the understanding that their membership affords them certain considerations vis a vis specialty or limited product) first. If you are in one of the 13 towns or counties, I'm sure that's precisely the way you'd want it. There is no way to justify letting a rock solid regular patron being passed over for an out of state customer who may or may not be a return customer. We pride ourselves on building relationships, and this is part of it. I'm sure most people understand this, so on to:
3. Pricing and taxes. I've heard some hubbub about both of these, and I'm having a tough time understanding the problem. All cigar smokers should know that MSRP means something different depending on where you are. The cigar tax, individual policies on SCHIP, whether that tax is included or comes up at the end of the sale, operational cost, all of these contribute to the sticker price. I don't know where everyone is, but I would seriously doubt someone would be foolish enough to gouge people on such a high profile item. As an Unlucky, this is a great deal of national attention. Tough to see how it would be a good idea ripping people off in the spotlight. I'd imagine the Face goes for upwards of $30 or more in New York -- I can't see how it couldn't -- but, unlike online retailers or stores in Pennsylvania or Florida, there is no way around it. We're treating this cigar (as far as pricing) like we do every other. Well, there is one difference: a few dozen people from all over the country expressing interest in a mail order purchase in a very short time period. Mail order is something we do, but it certainly isn't at anything approaching this volume or frequency. A lot of out of state orders can be tax exempt, but there's a problem with this: if a store does it that way, there are expenses and headaches that are just not worth it, especially when it is less than a dime on a dollar. We don't, and we can't, operate like the big mail order or online houses. Again, this doesn't get pocketed somehow, it is our legal obligation. As you might imagine, the authorities do pay attention to tobbaconists. We're not the most popular people in some circles. It would be foolhardy to avoid crossing t's and dotting i's in this regard.
4. Finally, and here's a personal point of emphasis for me, I want to sell everyone of legal age all the cigars they want. No BS. Every person I talked to, received a twitter DM or email or walked into the store will hopefully get what he or she wants. Everyone has been understanding and considerate, it has been a lot of fun to talk to people from every part of the country, and I'd love nothing more than to call each one of them early next week and complete the order to his/her satisfaction. I don't know if it will work out that way, but I'm crossing my fingers. Pete has no doubt come up with another masterpiece. It would give me great satisfaction to serve everyone smart enough to want all they can get of his outstanding products.
In short, we ARE rooting for you all to get what you want in a fair and efficient way. We're all in the business of retail cigars. You're our people. Here's to enjoying The Face, which, for what it's worth, I will not get a chance to, because every single person in line is in front of me.
Thanks.
Bryan at Centro Cigars.
