So, I want to get the thoughts of BOTL about giant ring gauges. I just brought the Kristoff Kristania which is 7x70 just for the fact that I want to experience what it's like to smoke something this size, and how long it will take. I'm expecting 2-2.5hrs.

Has anybody smoked anything this size before? What are your thoughts? Are these just a novelty or do they have a place in today's cigar industry. They seem to be the growing trend, and I want to see what you guys think.

I hate it. I don't smoke anything over a 56 RG unless it's gifted to me. Less than or equal to 50rg is my preferred range.

I'm glad it helps sales. But I'm not the intended market.

I agree completely. And maybe I am a slow smoker but a 7x70 would take me 3+ hrs. Then again I can also get 1½hrs from a Undercrown Corona Viva

I'm not as opposed to the big RG sticks as many are here.. but a 60 is the max I have any interest in... and that honestly is on rare occasion..

Other than nub habanos and maduros.. I dont seek out anything 60+..

but if I happen to get gifted or bombed something 60+.. I'll smoke it...

Most of the time I dont have the time for anything that big.... and when I do.. I havent had a whole lot of success with the larger RG's in terms of finding many thing that I really like..

i don't need to compensate for anything... my truck isn't that big, i can hold my wife's purse from time to time, and i don't need a giant, phallic hunk of burning vegetation in my mouth either...

I am with most of you on this one. Really hate 60 ring or higher. Really? Why? Just boggles the mind. Prefer anything 54 or lower.

I would guess that the popularity is based on perceived value. I know when I was just starting out, I would choose the bigger RG just because it was barely more expensive than the smaller RG. Now I try different sizes to see what I like and tend to choose the smaller RGs. With that said, my favorite cigar is the Feral Flying Pig and the RG on that is larger than most cigars I smoke.

Honestly, I don't have anything against them, I just don't like them. They're uncomfortable to smoke. The only 60rg I enjoy is the FFP, and I don't smoke those all that often because of the size.

That being said, I know there are some that folks love, like the NUB.

I don't like 60+ RG have smoked a few some i enjoyed but they are not the most comfortable things to smoke and always wind up putting it down with around 1in to go cause just gets to hot for me. That said they are a big seller and looks like the 6x60 is here to stay. Never thought id see the day J.Fuego would make a 60RG

Yeah I mostly keep to smaller RGs as well. As Alex said above, I also seem to keep it under 56. I know a local shop here just got in the new Asylums that have the 80 RG and a few guys around here that go nuts for those sizes.

One of my buddies just smoked an Ogre.. 7x70... insanity.

Then again, he's 6'5", 250+lbs so in proportion, it actually looked normal...

56 is pushing it. I wouldn't smoke anything bigger unless Don Taboada came back from Heaven and rolled it for me himself.

You know what I'm one of those ppl who stands saying if it's rolled right, tastes right and burns right I'm willing to give it a run. If the price is right I wouldn't mind. 7" maybe cut it down into 2 sticks. I have a pretty wide palate and enjoy a huge variety so I'm not opposed to it at all.
