  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

RyJ Petite Pyramid EL '05...Rather blah if you ask me. It was rather tannic with muted flavors. Every now and then I would get a bitter sweet chocolate taste. IMHO, these will benefit from atleast 1-2 years of aging.
I've had three so far. One was bitter, one was non-descript, but one had flashes of beany tobacco. I think there's potential for these. I also very much like the size.

Tonight I had a Vegeuros laguito #1 that a buddy brought back from their factory at the farm.

I had a delicious ERDM CS '01 after dinner tonight. Very nice smoke. Now I know why they are so popular. It was a little tight on the draw but it did not ruin the smoking pleasure of this CC. The smoke coming off the cigar had a very pleasant fragrance that had a perfume like quality to it. It wasn't exactly like perfume but that's the best way I can describe it. That's the first time I ever got that. Is this a common experience with CC's?

Some Cubans are very fragarant. The JL1s I love leave a wonderful sweet-spice smell behind in my car, not like stale smoke at all. I love that smell when I get out of work.

I had one of my current fav's, a QdO Corona from '02. Unfortunately the draw was too tight so it wouldn't burn well. I tried to salvage it with my trusty scratch awl turned cigar poker but to no avail. I tossed it halfway through.

Exactly...Very muted flavors and bitter describes the one I had tonight. There is potential, with time

What you're referring to with the aroma is common for Cubans, though not much beyond other N/C super premiums' aroma. BUT, El Rey del Mundos are known for their 'etheral' aroma beyond that of any other cigar. The smell continues in it's progression indefinately but suffers, like the cigar itself, from the second vaccuum period between the ages of 10 & 20 y/o. (basically translates to a 'flat' tasting & smelling period). Beyond 20 years, RDM's are supposed to be some of the most amazing tasting and smelling smokes available. What they don't posess in strength they make up for exponentially in charisma the older they get.
MRN is one of the only cigar 'experts' to have published information regarding what I've just discussed. Look it up, it will interest you I think.

ERDM Gran Corona from '03

These were de-commissioned in 02 (confirmed) so I'm not sure if the brother who gifted it to me was confused or not. Either way, it was amazing and by far the darkest RDM I've ever seen! Nearly as dark & oily as many current production ELs, no joke!
