Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
I find that San Andres can be very dry and almost chalky tasting at times. I use it as wrapper on a few blends, but the dryness can be off putting if not done correctly.J. Fuego Origen Maduro Original
Underwhelming through the first half. Just dark cocoa and dark coffee with an occasional pepper sting or dark earth.
In the second half some sweetness in the background and the coffee is a little lighter. A very dry smoke.
The final third is dark earth, dark tobacco, dark cocoa, sweet tobacco and sweet coffee. None of the flavors are really popping out. The cigars will go to the bottom of the stash for a while. Hopefully time will help.
After looking at J. Fuego's site I have my suspicions confirmed. This is not the same blend as the Origen. This one is 1/3 Nic. ciollo, 1/3 Honduran Corojo, and 1/3 San Andres. The original was 1/2 Nicaraguan corojo and 1/2 Honduran Corojo. A very different set of filler blends and very different tasting cigars. To further switch things up the Maduro wrapper is Matafina instead of Brazilian corojo. The only thing that seems to have carried over is the Costa Rican corojo binder and Honduran corojo. The Maduro may be better as a larger cigar that lets the multitude of tobaccos have more speaking room.

In my opinion San Andres does best when kept around 70%. It really takes a fair bit of humidity to get the best out of San Andres. Unfortunately I just switched to 65% Bovedas and my tupperware is at about 67% currently. So, not the best atmosphere. I wasn't aware the Maduro had San Andres before I made the switch. Maybe if I stick them in the middle they'll soak up some extra moisture over time.I find that San Andres can be very dry and almost chalky tasting at times. I'm no bully brother!!!

I'm looking forward to that one very much. I've become a big fan of their stuff lately.
