  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Wanted to poll the brothers and ask; what (if any) outside stimulus seems to almost always increase your desire to light up?

Some possible choices:
A physical addiction causing a craving.
Habituation (triggered by the same time or place e.g. after dinner, during a ballgame, while fishing, etc.)
The smell of cigar smoke.
The sight of someone else smoking a cigar.
Reading about cigars (like on this site.)
As a companion to alcohol.
Working with (or purchasing) cigar paraphernalia (humidor, cutters, adjustments to inventory, etc.)
Other (help me out here.)

I find that I am really stimulated when on a site like this, I read about the cigar experiences of others. Just seeing someone smoke has little effect on increasing my desire to light up; and the smell of a roomful of tobacco smoke is actually a turn off to me. (I pretty much have to smoke where there is fresh flowing ventilation.) Time of day means little, although I do not enjoy smoking when it is very hot.

I am really curious about your thoughts on this subject. Thanks for participating.

Anytime I have a free hour I get the desire to smoke a cigar. Alcohol also raises the urge, though.

i like them to relax. after meals. just about any time.
i especially like them while riding my motorcycle. i always ride at the back of a group because, believe it or not, people can smell it while riding.
even after 30 years i can go without smoking and it doesnt' bother me. not like a craving or addiction. i just enjoy them.

If I ever see someone smoking a cigar, I want one. I don't have to have one. Some other things that make me want a cigar:
A nice sunny day.
A full stomach.
For some odd reason, Old Spice gives me a craving for a Camacho 1962.
Fishing.
Golf.
Sometimes drinking, but it's according to what I drink.

Exactly,,,,as I have been smoking cigars for about 40 years now but I have gone through times when I wouldn't have one for 6 months or now for the last few years I can go weeks without feeling the need that I have to have one. I smoke cigars because they relax me whether I am out riding my motorcycle, playing golf or just out taking a walk. The symbiotic relationship is a postive one for me,,,I only smoke when I am in a good mood or want to relax. I guess I am fortunate because for others the pull or addiction to tobacco can hook you pretty hard where you actually feel the "need" to have at least one cigar or more per day. This isn't a bad thing if you do have multiple cigars per day,,,it's about quality of life and if people can handle that many cigars you're lucky. If I smoked one cigar per day I'd be coughing and feeling short of breath. I'm ok if I avg. 3 per week or when a herf is going on I can deal with 2 or 3 but the next few days I won't smoke.

I just like to smoke... that's the only stimuli I need. Whenever I can set aside an hour or more is when I'll usually find the right cigar for the moment.

First off you are really making me think about this serious question. I do not think I have triggers like I did when I did hard drugs but the habits of smoking cigars seems to be an addiction now. The feeling of always wanting to smoke one, looking at vendor sites, looking for cigar deals, getting accessories (baggies LOL) is very much like my previous drug habbit.

I mostly smoke in the car as often as I possibly can but only when family is not with me (usually to and from work.) Being married with one child and two dogs keeps me pretty busy around the house so less time to smoke. Soon the weather will break and I hope to enjoy more cigars outside my home and less in the car. Seems I do not smoke with others as not many cigar lovers in my town.

I am in love with the hobby of buying different cigars and storing them myself. Always searching for that one cigar that is the be all cigar. Best part is searching for it is the fun part. I hope that helps.

When I look at that long, smooth, dark and veiny stick something makes me want to simply shove it up me mouth!...Wait. That sounded horrid! :jitb:
(Makes one think twice on what they write in their reviews, oi?)

On a more seious note, I smoke them when I feel like it.

I wish I could find the time or the freedom of smoking places to smoke that much. When I can though I do. For me there are no triggers just if the time and place allows I am smoking.
Unemployment and a couple of air purifiers in the basement do wonders for smoking times!

While I was part of the workforce, I did manage to get 2-3 in a day. Yardwork, sitting in the basement after work, afterdinner....

I dont really have a specific trigger, however that is not to say that I do not look forward to having a good smoke especially after a long day at school/work.
