  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Would you smoke these moldy cigars?

I've smoked cigars that had this type of white mold. It's nothing to worry about. Just wipe them off and smoke them. The fact that the vendor didn't try to pass it off as plume just tells you that it is a good vendor.

Thanks for the opinions. I decided to wipe em and smoke. As much as I would have preferred to exchange them, decided this vender has been good to me so far. I've isolated them in a separate coolidor just in case.

So, from my own research (which primarily involves asking other BOTLs), white mold spores are everywhere, all the time. You can't keep them off of your cigars because all of your cigars already have them in numbers. All of them.

They key is simply to ensure proper storage conditions - keep the rH proper and you won't have an issue.

I wipe them off with a soft, clean cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, then put them in a dry box for a few days. I use grain alcohol (ethanol - Everclear) to thoroughly clean the original box and let it air dry for a few days. I then put the smokes back into the original box, place them in the humidor and leave them alone for a month and then smoke them. Never had a problem with mold spreading elsewhere in decades of smoking. I DO NOT put them in a singles drawer where they can contact the wood directly, just in case.
Solid advice...
