I've found after trying a couple methods as I'm learning too. This has been the easiest and best method for me as well.

Be careful, turns out there is something to this pipe thing (especially if you have any memories of pipe smoke from your youth), even for cigar smokers. Someone else said it best (paraphrasing) in that "picking up pipes turned my 1 year supply of cigars into a 5 year supply".

Same here. Especially when I'm driving. No chance in hell I'm tamping and relighting on the road or have to pull over to do it.

Yeah, same deal here. I've tried smoking a pipe while driving a few times. Doesn't work for me too well in NY traffic. Way too much going on. I've given up on it.

Same here. I know exactly how it is. I've even tried to do it locally around town while I'm running errands and it's just way too dangerous. I don't recommend anyone to do it. Just my 2 cents though. Others might feel differently about it.

I tried once while driving. My wife squeals too much to enjoy it while driving. I have hand rolled some PS 83 Amsterdam, D&R 3 Sails and Ryback while driving and I get some looks. Of course my wife worries we're going to get pulled over for me smoking dope.....
