  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

WTF?!?!? My b&m just went non-smoking!!!

Oh that tears me up. That location is super small anyway, I can't imagine more than 2 or 3 people being able to smoke in there at once anyhow.

I like the outdoor herf idead but I'm sure that's a no go for some reason. I can see it now when the weather gets cooler and we're all standing outside of the cigar shop's door smoking, the sorbet shop will complain about that too and they'll call the landlord or the police for loitering. sheesh.

It seems like they didn't think this one through though, moving people from smoking indoors to possibly smoking literally on top of your customers outside your door. I don't know about the size of this sorbet place but usually they are tiny and people eat their ice cream outside. Sounds like nobody wins.

I agree with you 100% on the legality of the situation. It's completely and totally up to the discretion of the property owner, as it should be.

But that doesn't change the fact that it sucks for the cigar shop. And me! :sadcry:

Oh and all y'all don't know what you're missing out on that sorbet--until they pulled this stunt, I was really enjoying the sorbets. Delicious stuff! But I'm not patronizing their store anymore.

Because, you know, they're bastards.

Sheep - THAT sucks - how 'bout posting up the address/website/email of the sorbet shop? Have any of the local news outlets been contact about this? Just throwing that out there.

I don't know if it's a good idea to cause a "stink" about this...probably just bad publicity, which is the last thing any cigar store needs.

It's best left in their hands and their continued negotiations with their property owner.

i completely agree it sucks... I just don't get the "what's the world coming to?" type comments. It was just one person's decision that this had to happen. Once I get off work I'm going to Lincoln to hang out at my favorite B&M. It is in a strip mall that is owned by the people who run the Village Inn. Most of the employees at the Village Inn smoke, heck... the cigar shop probably wouldn't keep selling cigarettes if it wasn't for the fact that the Village Inn employees buy most of their smokes from them. But we can't smoke inside... it isn't because someone thinks our smoking is hurting their business, but because a bunch of anal-types who will never eat at a Village Inn or be in a cigar shop decided that they want to say that Lincoln, Nebraska is 100% smoke-free! It has been this way for a few years now... so i know how bad it sucks, but I don't think your problem is the same.

The real funny thing... is because of how the parking lot is laid out and that the cigar shop is in the middle... people have to walk through or around us to get to the Village Inn! we only have about 10-12 people smoking there every wednesday night!:grinFU:

Fuck! You know, if you don't want to smell like you're next door to a cigar shop, then here's a thought: Don't fucking move in nextdoor to a fucking cigar shop!!!!!

:crying:
Long ago we were looking to a place to move our office. One that we looked at was on an interior hallway down the hall from a beauty shop. The hall smelled of the stuff they use in perms, whtaever it's called. Nothing illegal about it, just a gross smell that I wouldn't choose to be around. Did we move in and demand that the beauty shop stop doing perms? Of course not.

Well, I understand it to be normal "human emotional reaction" and "empathy for your fellow man".

Everything doesn't have to make perfect logical sense, you know.
Yeah, yer right... shame on me for playing devil's advocate.:pitchfork :halfgrinw

Another thing they can do is put an ashtray between the two doors, so that people stand around it smoking...if the sorbet people comment don't get snarky, just say that you are trying to finish your smoke before going inside.

Boy do I feel your pain about this. More and more B&M's and cigar bars are going thru this turn of events and wait til the law changes and tells you that you can't even smoke outside. This happened to me in Cape Cod when I just lit a premium cigar not 5 minutes earlier and had the cops tapping me on the shoulder telling me to put it out. I really thought he was joking because I was just walking around the streets and not bothering anyone within 20 feet. So I laughed it off thinking, this guy is joking with me. NOT! He comes up to me again and tells me either I put it out or I get a ticket.

Laura Miller's out. Tom Leppert's the new hand.

I don't make it to that shop very often, but when I do, I always enjoy sitting there and enjoying a smoke. Shame that's out now.

The whole proposition to outlaw all smoking in Dallas is bullshit, and I'm not sure if it'll pass or not. Every day Dallas has fewer and fewer redeeming qualitites in my eyes.:hanghead:

Sorbet? For crying out loud. Someone actually opened a sorbet shop? Did they do any research at all. With any lluck and based on the economy, your problem will last about 3months.

I dunno...

There's a lot of poofs, hippies and Eurotrash in that area; it may be enough of a base to keep the sorbet shop open. (let's just hope not :stretchgr)
