Jeez. I've NEVER seen prairie in nj and I haven't seen BCBS of any variety since the fall. Where do y'all live that you're able to score those beauties? That wine barrel noir sounds incredible

I'm making a run today to a shop that usually does pretty good with harder to find bourbon. If I find it, I'll pick it up and PM you.

Does that say 67% alcohol? Damn right that's rocket fuel.

Whats the purpose of the electrical tape on wire cages and bottle caps in the beer trading world? As a professional brewer and avid homebrewer I haven't got a clue. I've traded once and they were all taped and I was a bit confused by it. Seeing Fourty's pic a few posts back is what got me wondering again.

I get waxed caps on some stuff, well except something Someone will drink in a year. Otherwise its just for decoration and it makes opening the bottle a pain in the dick. The wax helps in preventing oxygen diffusion through the crown cap liner giving you greater aging potential to a small degree. I would argue to just put Brett in the bottle of long term beers and you will be good for like 10+ years for many beers. Anyway, what the Hell is the tape doing, I cant imagine its much more than a color coded marker of some kind if using an assortment of color of course.

i use electrical tape to overlap/secure teflon tape. teflon seals work great ..
and to a degree, this combo ensure the cap is secure.

imo, only deserving craft beer one offs or the limiteds need the good faith due care.

the cap's integrity is an often problematic shipping consideration. so fwiw, an apparent leakage enroute would be moreso evident due to rough handling.

Thanks

Do caps regularly pop on the bottles? I've had over carbed home brew that I made once that blew the bottle but never had a crown cap come loose or leak. So that added to my confusion. I have seen some haphazardly attached cork cages and tape there makes sense. I just don't get it on crown caps.

Andy, that is a concern with the 2013's. The one I received is a 2012 so no problems here.
Ah that's good! I love The Bruery, but it seems like I'm always reading about their beers being infected and for the price they charge for beer, that should not be the case.
Just curious how they are contaminated. Is the beer viscous or just foaming out of the bottle when opened? They have a tough job there trying to make clean ale fermented brews and soured beers in the same place. Then I would assume based on their size they only have one filler and I wonder about their ability to verify cleaning temps and so on the ensure they don't cross contaminate.
The White Chocolate I had was very sour and kind of tasted like bad apple juice. I had read that there were some problems with the 2013 White Chocolate, but unfortunately, this was after I had already traded for some. This is a quote from Patrick Rue on why this particular beer was infected....

"White Chocolate you may also recall this year did not taste as it did in the previous year when it was first released. Our initial testing showed the beer was a lower pH than the 2012 version, and continued testing showed it had remained at the same pH since being packaged, so we determined it was stable. Unfortunately, we have recently found that the pH has continued to drop, indicating further souring of this beer."
That's really a shame they just released it and basically said "sorry". I would bet they knew it wasn't stable but released it anyhow and said that to half cover their ass. If you ask me for the price they demand they are ripping people off with the lack of reaction to quality testing results. What the point of testing if you will just release it anyhow?
