I use 1800cpap.com. I get the consumables (pillow, straps, etc...) at a much better price than the local medical supply company. Also, they helped me out by infoming me that buying pieces separately means I am not buying a medical device, so no current prescription required.

Ok, so how long does it take to get used to sleeping with your cpap? I slept like crap last night using it for the first time.
The mask is super comfortable and breathing is actually pretty easy. My tubes allow me to move pretty freely, but having that thing on just was not conducive to sleeping.

Yeah, sadly it will not be til november that i can change my plan. I am going after work to talk to a place that sells them and offers some refurbished models that are certified and half the price.
Thanks for the heads up on the seals and masks.
I have a Devillbis machine I used once, yours if you want it bro. I may not have the hoses, but you'd likely want to start off with new tubes and mask anyway.
I'll pM you pics tonight if interested. Note it is "one way" air. It does not "respirate". It just blows.
Like. Yeah. I said "blows" . Looks like this

ugh I just started with mine on Friday, have the mask, its kind of annoying b/c halfway through the night it ramps up to 9 on pressure and leaks out the mask sometimes and blows air on my face, I have that mask on tight to! I find I wake up not as tired, but nothing life changing... I still wake up in the middle of the night. Insurance made me put a $75 copay and the results are transmitted back for 13months, just to verify I am using the device, otherwise insurance wont pay for it. After 13 months I own it. It was funny, I asked, well how much does it cost to buy it outright (Philips dreamstation), $1200, I looked online and you can get new ones for $600, highway robbery.

It took my about a year to fully get used to the cpap but I am glad I use it now :)

When I first started using mine, it would ramp up to 15 all the time and the nasal cushion would leak like nobody's business but it does take some time for you to adjust to using it, so keep using it nightly and it will get better, trust me ;)

I wouldn't mind trying nasal pillows. I sampled the nose mask and if you open your mouth it was liking trying to breathe while sticking your head out the car window on the highway, ick.

I can't offer much in insurance advice, since I was 'lucky' to have my VA benefits cover everything. (not everything about the VA is bad)
I started with a full face for the first year or so and made the switch to a nasal pillow style, back in December. It's much more comfortable, but it can be much less forgiving with leaks in the middle of the night. I did have to retrain myself to sleep in a different position when I started using the cpap though. That was harder than getting used to the mask for me.

The pillows have the same effect. You open your mouth and the air just comes through your nasal passage and out your mouth. Kind of comical if you ask me. :p

In those rare cases for me, I wake up and it feels like the inside of my mouth has been sanded with 80 grit sandpaper  but that is only if I am really tired.
The nasal pillows are definitely not for everyone but they do work for me.

Another thing my body had to relearn....not breathing through my mouth. They also make a chain strap you can attach to the other straps, that gently helps keeps your jaw closed. It applies just enough pressure so your jaw doesn't naturally open. I have it but don't use it since it wasn't an issue.

During my sleep study, they observed that I open my mouth throughout the night. They told me to use a chinstrap with the CPAP.

I just hope it gets better than last night. My wife did say that she thought i died because she couldnt hear me breathe and i was not moving.
My setting is at 4 and that feels odd. Can not imagine any higher than that.

I adjusted after about a week. I have a non-traditional mask. It says it is a full mask but it fits over my mouth and my node sits on top. ICan't use a mask that fully covers my moth and nose. I used to have a pillow style but this is the one I have now - https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/product/HCNOCTN374/amara-view-minimal-contact-full-face-mask

I like this one but I need to change it every month so I have a good seal. The silicone doesn't seal as well as skin oils build up. I should note, I have a full beard but it isn't long. This mask works very good for me.

4... My setting just got upped to 16 lol. And yeah, it'll take some getting used to. Like others have mentioned, my biggest adjustment was sleeping in a different position to make the mask comfortable. I'd like to lose weight to see if I could come off the machine, but with my medical history I don't think my apnea is completely weight related and I don't know if I could sleep without it now anyway.

does your auto adjust throughout the night though? Mine starts at 4 when I turn it on, usually goes to 9 in middle of night
Yeah, last night was my first night. I havent checked to see if it adjusted, but i never felt a difference.
