Great herf weekend in Ohio, tried so many bourbons and ryes I had not tried before. Off the top of my head:

O.K.I.
Peerless Rye SiB
Good Times Honey finished Rye
NULU
Jack Daniels SBBP Rye
'70s Old Grandad
'70s Maker's Mark

So many others I can't remember...but the cream of this crop:

Actually had 3 pours of the WLW thanks to a generous friend. It was probably the best bourbon I've tasted this year, and maybe ever.
I was just in Ohio last month actually, there and Iowa, Indiana & West Virginia on a much needed trip. Got to see the Field of Dreams and attend the Iowa State Fair among many other awesome places.

Nice score!! Those are some choice crops there. How were the vintage whiskies (OGD & Makers)? Love when I have an opportunity to enjoy that stuff. I can still recall the moment I tried a sealed Illinois bourbon from the 60’s and a 1949 sealed Cognac.

How did that WLW compare to the one I sent you? Mine was the 2019 release at 128.0 Proof. The one you had was the 2017 release at 128.2 Proof lol. How was that extra .2?

Keeping up with my usual delayed fashion here are some whiskies I’ve enjoyed these past weeks since I last posted

This one wasn’t nearly as potent as the bourbon but I actually enjoyed it more. Since I’m gravitating towards Ryes now that was to be expected though.

Better then Sweet Wheat by a mile

Better then Single Barrel by half a mile lol

Ezra Brooks 99 Proof (Lux Row Distillery)

Definitely didn’t suck like I thought it might

Not usually my style but this one was interesting

Damn this one was potent and very nuanced.

Just because...

Matt @BourbonBinder , the dusties both had a wonderful viscosity and just coated the palate. Not much heat but that mouth feel that was almost syrupy and just delicious.

Environment means so much for bourbon and cigars for me, so hard to compare the WLW samples from memory. I will say that both were probably amongst the top 5 bourbons I have ever had.

Last night I opened Booker's Oven Buster for the first time to say an unofficial goodbye to summer. It was really good after a porterhouse dinner and with a Punch Mantua, but probably not in my top 10 Booker's batches.

Glad to see Booker’s is still wetting your whistle! I had a Batch from 2015 semi-recently that absolutely blew me away. I’ve gravitated away from Booker’s mostly, but mainly due to budgetary reasons. A guy at my lounge recently brought in Teresa’s Batch, which I found very coincidental, as that was the last bottle I owned. Is that still high on your ever-growing list?

I hear you about the WLW! Also the syrupy viscosity you described with the vintage bourbon is exactly what I got from my experience. It was almost like liquid brown sugar. Not much in the sense of alcohol, just immense gobs of sweetness. Very enjoyable! Happy you got to experience that.

@BourbonBinder Matt, I still have Teresa's high on my list, might have slipped out of my Top 5 Booker's but defintiely in the top 7 or 8. Do you know which 2015 you had? I've opened 4 of the 6 batches and probably like Maw Maw the best...still haven't opened Big Man Small Batch and Center Cut.

Last night had a few full proof pours. By the time I got to the Booker's Toogie's Invitation, the pour was small and the effects were big. Bed right after that.

Elated to hear that Teresa’s is still so high on your list after all this time.

The 2015 I had was “The Center Cut”. If I ever see one in the wild I would probably buy it, even with the current rate.

In today’s ridiculousness i happened upon this on the shelf of a new spot by me. Who in their right mind would ever pay this price?

Matt @BourbonBinder , I can remember paying around $35 for McKenna before Whiskey Advocate made it their whiskey of the year. Fine by me, I didn't care for it much at that price.

Center Cut is one of 2 bottles I haven't opened....I have been told that this may be the best Roundtable release ever by Booker's.

Last night had a couple more samples a friend in Colorado dropped on me.

Smoke Wagon 8 year Private Barrel. I see why these are garnering so much attention. Delicious flavor, oily palate coating mouthfeel and long finish. OK, I wouldn't drop $800 or even close to what secondary is commanding, but I definitely understand the praise.

The JJ Bowman Single Barrel was light on the palate and short on finish. I wouldn't seek this one out again.
