• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Sounds interesting in his assessment of 15 areas and 4 grades of leaf (from each) to blend what the customer wants. Tabadom Holdings seems to be tied to a variety of cigar brands. I guess the brands are the customers he refers to.

    WLT Honduran 2012 wrapper blend

I haven't tried the Honduran wrapper yet but if it adds similar flavors to the Honduran filler, I only add that in strips to my blends. It's a nice flavor but to me can overwhelm other flavors. I've enjoyed it with Nic habano seco and corojo viso combos.

    Ammonia in New leaf

I think airing it out is it. Make sure it isn't wet in the bag. Pliable is ok, wet is not.

It's about 42 degrees out, I'm one hour into a 14 hour pork butt smoking session, I think this will be a great kick-off stogie!

So sticks 1 thru 6 are bound with Dom olor seco. The 7th is Nicaraguan binder. Quite the color contrast between them. No need to add a wrapper over that Nic binder, it's pretty as is.

That's right. I can't imagine not liking any of them but want to see what the differences bring. The Ec Seco is the wrapper I've used most so that is just a control sample to see how the binder change alone impacts this. The rest is just more fun experimenting.

I'm going to work on this part tonight. Will bunch up some of my piloto seco, mata fina, dom ligero blend and bind it with dom olor. Question is what to wrap with? CT Shade, Nic binder, good old Ec Seco?

8 quick smokes with a variety of new-to-me leaf. That American CT Shade from WLT smells delicious as soon as you open the bag. The leaf is thin and stretchy, much more workable than I had anticipated. Also used the LO Nic binder, pretty leaf, may see how much wrapper I can find in that batch.

Some nice looking new leaf to play with: That Nic binder was so wet upon arrival, I took it out and de-stemmed it all. Gave it time to dry a little and eliminated a few that were moldy already. I was thinking about @Marc L thread about sorting but am supposed to be sleeping so will have to...

When you add 2 ligeros, would you keep the total ligero weight the same and just add half of each? So instead of one leaf of 9 grams you'd have two of 4.5 grams each?

Awesome, thanks for the details. I ordered some of the Olor recently also so will try that as binder too. Sadly I was too slow on ordering the volado but if it's on the boat, maybe I'll get another shot at ordering some. As for the Nic habano seco, I have a little remaining, I think I'll add...

I haven't yet but when smoking have found the binder to have significant influence on the flavor. For instance I don't like using the PA binder on my piloto seco, mata fina, dom ligero blend. I really liked the dom binder for that so subbed in Piloto seco as binder. Now I'm trying the Ec seco...

Tonight's rolling was about trying a couple new blends. I've previously found simple blends of equal parts seco and ligero to be enjoyable and tried that on 2/16/18 with Piloto seco and Piloto ligero. Good smoke but this needs something more. Tonight the first 4 added a leaf of Mata Fina and the...

I must be lazy. I've regressed from making acceptable/functional caps to not capping them at all or sometimes twisting them up. Seems to be working.... But I must say, Blake, your cigars look a million times nicer than mine.
