• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So last night as I was getting ready to call it a day, I jumped out on a limb and rolled a quickie. No water, no spray, no casing leaves. Well the wrapper was cased when I last rolled on 1/22 and the binder is wrapper scraps from that session. It's a simple blend I wanted to try, 1 part CTBL...

I've been itching to burn this one since 1/5/18 as that made it a year old. Finally made time today. Turns out, it was too mellow now but that's ok, it's rare I have anything that lasts a year!

Here is what they look like after molding with a paper strip: Smooth as can be. I fired this one up without a wrapper leaf in the name of science, you know just to see how the blend is... Edit: The blend is good! 1/2 leaf of each of the following WLT Nic Hab Seco LO Hond. Seco WLT Corojo...

    cigar shrinkage

Sometimes. Sometimes they sit in newspaper stips for a couple days with the house at 28% RH before being wrapped. They don't seem to shrink as much while rolling in the winter. Summer time rolls get at least a week in the dry box before the humidor.

    cigar shrinkage

Some of the home rollers sort and flatten leaf as soon as it arrives. I usually leave it in the bag it came in then pull out only what I plan to use. In order to flatten the ligero and bunch it, I typically spray the bottom of the leaves with DW and put them in a separate zip lock bag to come up...

People ask, once in a while, what to do with the scraps. I don't end up with much scrap, here's my scrap bag from the last three sessions:

    New Years resolution

I have used xanthan gum (from a grocery store) then moved on to arabica from LO. I'm going to order some bermocol soon as the arabica seems to work well on seco wrappers but not darker leaf such as ligero, viso, nor CTBL. Maybe I'm mixing it too watered down but then again, maybe I need a better...

I stole a move out of @webmost playbook with this leaf. Used the inner part with the thicker veins as binder and outer part with thinner veins as the wrapper on more than one occasion. Tell us what you think after smoking one, Jim
