• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Pics of Your Sticks

Bunched yesterday, wrapped today, I wonder if I will be able to hold out a year....I might have to start a twelve step program to make them last that long! I'd be proud of myself if they make it to June 11th.... Into the dry box with some short smokes rolled last week for comparison (they'll...

    Invention idea: Hairbrained or genius.

Until you've built your idea, I guess you won't know if the changing flavors are due to a changing blend or the tar/smoke build up inside the cigar the way they are smoked now. Maybe the flavors are due to what part of the leaf is being smoked or changing blends, in which case your gizmo could...

Looks terrible B, you should quarantine any sticks that might've contacted that and send them all to me for proper disposal. Lucky for you I'm running a home roller disposal discount this week...:angelic:

    Blending Thread

Just had a mini that was rolled back in January that was good to the nub. Fillers were a half leaf each of criollo ligero, mata fina, and habano seco, bound in Dominican binder and Ecuador shade seco wrapped. Definitely making many more of these. Flavors were sweet tobacco with a medium finish.

    Hello from Charlotte

It's good to see someone nearby, there are a few guys here that gather at JR's routinely (up in Statesville), we'll have to compare notes later about local B&M's.

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

Been holding this one since the NC herf last May, can't wait to fire it up any longer. With thanks to the brothers that shared so generously! Flavors have been smooth and I've never before seen ash so dark. This reminds me of a nice coffee with heavy cream. Just a touch of sweetness here and...

    Well it finally happened

If you won't be using it within the next week, I'd recommend letting it dry out to about the same as when you received it. Not crunchy and not wet. Then back into storage.

    Well it finally happened

If you leave them wet in a bag for too long, they can get moldy. If you case and let them sit in a bag overnight, no problem. I use distilled water and haven't had a problem short term but have found spots if the damp leaf goes back in a bag for a month...

    Well it finally happened

I don't think there's any harm in it. Then you could stack the right and left halves so when you roll, the leaves are always the same orientation for a session.

    Smoking in the car?

Rarely do I ride in my car without a stogie now. One on the way to work, one on the way home. Doing a dump run? Fire it up. Running around for errands? Light it up. Too cold to sit outside? Go for a ride and enjoy a smoke. Resale, what's that?

    Well it finally happened

Tape. My xanthan gum wouldn't hold the band together so I used tape. I'm using arabica now (from LO) and sometimes it holds the band, sometimes not. Both seem to hold wrapper leaf together just fine so a bit of tape for the band and I'm all set.

    Well it finally happened

I just cut strips of paper about the width of a piece of tape and write the recipe with the date on it....separately, I write all the same info in a notebook. When I smoke one, I'll go back to add notes on the back of the page.

I'm still working on properly stuffing my 44RG mold. Last batch was tasty but too tight. I'll get it right sooner or later, just wish it was sooner!
