• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Little Havana Hygrometers / Small Hygrometers

He wants them to fit in the drawers with the cigars and take up as little space as possible. Also, what round one does Ron offer? I only see the rectangular adjustable on his web site.

Little Havana Hygrometers / Small Hygrometers

The little Havana are the only ones I know of with that shape. I think the Caliber III would work for you as well. Not truly cigar shaped, but thin and rectangular so might actually take up less room.

    Health Insurance BS-cigar related

Gotta be careful with the whole, "hiding the smoking" thing. Some insurance companies will test for it. Beyond that, I like your last comment, pretty much nailed it. I'm a bit surprised your agent couldn't do anything about this. Sounds like your boss might want to shop for a different...

It's interesting, Steve. I've seen others recently note that they think the 65% HF beads tend to hold closer to 67-68%. I haven't noted if those comments noted temperature, but temp plays a big role in how the RH reads, so it's hard to judge the comments. You are correct that I don't get to...

Don't stress over the mold, brother. Every cigar you will ever put into your humi will have mold spores on it/in it. It's just a fact of life. Just keep the RH where it needs to be and all will be good.

Little Havana Hygrometers / Small Hygrometers

Go with one of the calibrate-able hygrometers available. Ron @ Cigarsolutions sells the rectangular ones and I have a bunch of them. Love 'em. Mark over at Cigarmony sells the Xikar versions (both round and rectangular). Never used them, but Mark wouldn't carry something that was crap. Only...

Guys, I get that, but what you are talking about really shouldn't have that kind of affect on the RH. Lower temps hold less moisture, but that doesn't mean less RH. RH is Relative, remember, so if you have something that is supposed to hold 70% RH, it should hold 70% RH in (just about) any...

What he said above. You can go either route. You don't need to remove the beads from the tube either way. And best if you don't open and close it constantly either as it is WAY too easy to end up with beads everywhere.

    Hygrometers and Calibrating

Wireless Hygrometers The base unit: The remote: There are a variety of variations on the above unit made by any number of manufacturers (Oregon Scientific and La Crosse are two biggies) and most involve differences in the "base". The basic wireless hygro unit will include the base...

    Hygrometers and Calibrating

So, I did this thread wayyyyyyyy back in 2006 or so and figured it could use some revamping. Especially as I think it should talk more about calibration as that seems to keep coming up. Maybe we can get this stickied, I hope it helps folks out. Welcome to the not-really-OFFICIAL Hygrometer and...

Just so we are on the same page, the post above yours was for Pnoguy. As to the washcloth, that's not a bad method, but as you say there is the small possibility you are introducing something you may not want to. If you can, get a sterile sponge instead. That will give you the same...

    Need some help!

It's a question of how often you are having to refresh your humidification devices. If you are constantly in and out of your humi that's one thing, but if it isn't opened all that often and is still not holding steady for a decent time frame, you may have a leak. With a solid humi, there...

Check out the sticky at the top of this forum (Storage) that talks about seasoning and humidification. You want a boveda pack at least or the boveda calibration kit. All you are doing is placing your hygro in a known RH environment so that you can confirm it is reading correctly, or more likely...

Kind of depends on the space you have to humidify/regulate. The larger the space the more I like to spread the beads around in different places. Does it really make a difference? I can't tell you scientifically that it does, but in my mind it just makes sense that it would.

Just now seeing this. A couple of things. Good to see you calibrated your hygros, that's always the first question. Next thing, if you have having that much difficulty holding humidity, something's wrong (I'm referring to your comment about humidity having a tougher time staying up down...

    CC, NC, or both?

Can't tell you how many times I've seen this conversation on various boards. Always seems to pan out the same way.

    Any idea what this is?

Wow. That is one odd duck you have there. Almost looks like the barrel was plugged (notice the outer ring that could have been the original bore). Very strange mechanism attached tongue hammer as well. Let us know if you figure out what it is.

    On the fence...

Are you looking at buying one of the three or two out of the three or? Can't go wrong with any of them, but you are talking about some pretty different flavors (at least between the RyJ and the others).

    CC, NC, or both?

I'm with AZ and Fox for the most part. I love the flavors I get out of CCs. Once I found those, I really flat out ignored NCs, to the point where I've had exactly one of the really big names out there recently (thanks Michael). I'm trying to re-branch out, so to speak, but considering my...
