• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

suppressing mold growth in pectin glue

so far, no mold on my roll ups, although who knows what will happen when summer comes and the 80RH swoops in. Right now the house is at 45RH, so drying is a breeze. I've actually been using my roll ups as a humidity source for my humidors.

suppressing mold growth in pectin glue

OK, it has happened to me for the first time this weekend. I had left the sealed baby food jar of pectin glue in with my rolling tools for a few weeks. Found it covered with a happy and healthy growth of mold. Trashed it, cleaned out the jar, remixed a fresh batch and I am now storing it in the...

    Cigar Molds Thread

Sorry to hwe Sorry to hear about your tribulations with mold in the home. I had a friend with a beach house that had the chimney separate from the house due to poor construction. It went unnoticed for several seasons until they went into the attic and found a serious infestation of black mold...

hm... I have a extra shower in the basement I'm not using. Perhaps I could step in there and run the shower slowly, rinsing the leaves off.

Filler leaves that one MUST have in stock

Here’s a famous blending chart. I don’t know where it came from originally or if it’s even true. Cuban cigars tend to be mild or mild-medium, and these average out to 1 seco, 2 visos, .5 ligeros. That formula gives an average of 1.85, or mild-medium. (This chart uses the Cuban terminology rather...

Filler leaves that one MUST have in stock

thanks. Bliss cigaro. That's what I was looking for. My "formula' for a generic 3 leaf blend was 1 vizio and 2 seco Based on your formula, I'm going to alter to 1 seco, 1 visio 1 ligero.

What got you into the cigar rolling hobby? and Why roll your own?

Agree. For me its the zen. I lay out binder, right filler and mold. I start rolling and before i know it I have a mold full of dolls ready to press. As far as cost, the items you HAVE to have are a rolling surface ($12.00 walmart) a tool to cut leaf ( Pizza wheel $3.00) and leaf ( filler...

    Pics of Your Sticks

Went to the cigar lounge earlier in the week to hang. Policy is purchase a stick, so I purchased a PDR 1878 ( great stick, by the way) It comes with a pigtail cap. Very elegant, so I decided to give it a try. Youtube provided me general technique and these are the result. Whatcha think?

Filler leaves that one MUST have in stock

I've been pondering your post for some time. As a newbie I am necessarily in receive mode first and foremost. I understand that "tasty" cigars are a matter of personal preference. When brewing beer, there is a recipe for each standard style. Dry Stout, Pilsner, bock, American lager. Brew houses...

Filler leaves that one MUST have in stock

I am graduating from infant to toddler in my cigar rolling progression. I have a couple binders and wrappers in stock. To date all my sticks have been rolled with the same combination of fillers. (2 corojo 99 vizio(WLT) 1 corojo 99 seco(WLT) ) I'd like to branch out and experiment with...

[Experiment] Infused cigars stored with traditional cigars

Everybody has their own opinion. Here's mine. I mix infused and non infused cigars freely in the same humidor. If I have it its because I liked the flavor. Otherwise why would I be keeping it?

    Adventures in home rolling

I was actually thinking about offering an excel spreadsheet that could be sorted for searches. I sent a PM to a mod to ask if there was a mechanism to share an Excel file on the forum but never received a reply. Is it possible to share an editable excel spread sheet within the forum?

yeah, me too. I've been clipping them just a wee bit shorter, twisting it into a flat spiral and hiding it with a toby disk. I'll post a detail photo once I have one I'm not ashamed of.

this is what I rolled up over the last 3 days. First attempt at a cap. Nothing fancy, just a close cropped pigtail topped with a tobacco disk. Going the muscle memory route.

    Binders

I have experience with a grans total of one binder. PA obscure binder from WLT. The leaves are very large, which means more waste but more forgiving for newbies like me. The veins are thick and prominent. I have taken to rolling them with a wallpaper seam roller to flatten a bit. The leaves are...
