• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Recommendation for 2 *binder* leaves

Yes, I meant binder. ( listen to what I'm thinking, not what I type :hilarious: ) I'll check out your thread. Thanks for the link.

    Recommendation for 2 *binder* leaves

I had previously posted this question in my rolling plan thread but thought it might get more attention here: I have currently rolled all my sticks using PA obscure binder from WLT. Can the forum offer recommendations for 2 additional binders that are significantly different in taste? I'm...

Getting binders and wrappers to lie flat

so, do you do one leaf at a time, or can you stack up several leaves and do them in batches?

Getting binders and wrappers to lie flat

I am looking for a way to make de-stemmed binders and wrappers lie flat. I generally pull my binders and wrappers out storage a day or 2 before the rolling party, gently open them, spritz them with DW and then fold them in half stem to tip and place them in a plastic bag. Next day I de-stem...

    the secret to good head

When one applies binder to a bunch, does one generally cut the display edge and the belly or are these measures reserved for filleting wrapper only?

    the secret to good head

Rolled a rack of dolls this weekend. Spent more care and attention to the head, ensuring there was sufficient tobacco, and that the ends of the leaves were pruned off neatly before enclosing in the binder. Its a process, not an event. I'm interested to see how the latest batch comes out after...

    Is my rolling plan reasonable?

Typically, how many TYPES of leaf go into a particular cigar blend? 2? 3? More? I'm preplanning for step 3 and would like to start researching fillers.

    Is my rolling plan reasonable?

ok, so I've rolled step 1 using PA obscuro binder and 3 different wrappers. I'm also out of binder. Any suggestions for 2 additional binders that are significantly dissimilar to PA obscuro in terms of taste?

Monitoring humidity and temperature - DIY project

Would be interesting to mount something like this into a humidor and be able to set tracklogs to record either every 15 minutes for 24 hours or once a day for a month to see trends. ( of course, I'm a date freak)

Origin of tobacco in a particular cigar batch.

If you are attempting to write a description of the stick to resell, I'd sit down with 2 or 3 fellow cigar smokers who's taste you trust. Divide the sticks into groups by origin and pass a sample of each around. Discuss the taste and write a taste description similar to what you see on the onlne...

    the secret to good head

Within the humor of the thread title, there is actually a serious question. Since I have clearly torpedoed myself, let me attempt just once to undo the damage. I have seen 2 methods for forming the head of a Parejo dome head cigar. I believe my issues need to be solved before the doll goes into...

Show us your latest leaf purchase

funny, I was at the B&M yesterday when the Drew Estates sales rep came in. Another customer came in asking for a "sweet" cigar. He pointed out a few DE offerings with sweetened heads, and then mentioned that Cameroon wrapper was a " naturally sweet" wrapper leaf I guess that's not strictly the case.

Origin of tobacco in a particular cigar batch.

    1. What are you trying to accomplish by determining the tobacco composition of your sticks? if you are working to recreate the cigars on a commercial scale, I'm sure there are plant DNA labs that can examine the leaf and tell you what the cigars are composed of. However that will not be...

    the secret to good head

My sticks are getting better, I'm getting more organized and I am becoming more comfortable working with leaf. However, I am still having trouble forming the head into a firm dome. It always comes out soft and floppy. Is there a technique I am missing to improve the head? I'm not even talking...

Starsan is a combination of acids. It's a food safe sanitizer used regularly in brewing. Here's a link to the MSDS if you want the technical details. http://www.fivestarchemicals.com/wp-content/uploads/Star-San-HB4.pdf I have no idea if its safe to smoke, or what the PH is. It comes in...

    Boss Bands

What is the easiest glue to use to secure bands I printed myself on copy paper? I was thinking a glue stick. I'm not getting fancy yet, just want a way to keep track of the blend combination and roll date so I have a basis for comparing my work down the road.

Try Starsan. Purchase the concentrate at the home brew store. For sanitizing brew equipment you mix it 1.5OZ in 2.5 gallons. You could make it a bit stronger. I've never smoked the stuff, but it's food grade. Funny, I have wrapped a total of 10 sticks in my life, and i used that exact wrapper...
