• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Cigar Cyclopedia closed?

Bummer. That comparison shopper feature was a valuable tool that I used every time I was planning on buying a box. :sadstare:

    Cigar Magazine

I believe that Cigar Magazine just shut down operations. :frown:

    Gun Shows

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like Allentown has a show coming up in just under 2 weeks. Think I'll head up there.

    A New Desktop Humidor

Test before you buy. The lid should have a slight resistance, and air should whoosh out, just as it closes. Try putting a dollar bill over the lip with part of it sticking out, shut the lid, then pull the cigar out. There should be resistance. Try moving the cigar and repeat, so that you end...

    Gun Shows

There is one coming up in March out in Valley Forge, just outside PHL, which I am planning on going to. Are prices at these shows generally decent? Or am I likely to do better at a gun shop?

    Boveda Packs

BTW, most retailers will tell you that Bovedas are disposable. I.e., when they dry out, you should toss 'em and buy new ones. That is a crock. When they start to dry out, just drop 'em in a Ziplok bag with some distilled H2O and let them sit for a little while. They will rehydrate and can be...

    Buaza cigars

Decent smoke, especially if you like the Fuente flavor profile (which I do), but I prefer darker wrappers and heavier flavors, so I tend to stick with maduro Fuentes.

So does this really help maintain humidity.

I don't think it will do anything re: the RH situation. I agree with what has been posted: rotate cigars in a smaller humidor, and/or put a fan in a larger one.

    12 Ronsons for $17!

I must have lucked out: no bogus charges on my debit card...

    Cigar Boxes

I agree that an accurate digital hygrometer is a good idea, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary, especially for somebody just starting out with a single Tupperdor. Bovedas come in your choice of several RH's, and as long as they are soft, they are generally reliable at maintaining their...

    Cigar Boxes

Buy a suitable size Tupperware (or similar) container. Insert a sheet of the Spanish cedar that comes in many cigar boxes to separate the layers or that most cigar boxes are made of. Insert a Boveda pack. Insert cigars. Check the Boveda pack from time to time. If it starts to feel hard...

Bang for your buck smoke under 6 bucks

Most of the Fuente Chateau series smokes are under or just about there.

    Humidifying a Travel Humdor?

Unless you are going to be away for a couple of weeks, you don't really need any humidification (depending on how dry a climate you will be in and how much time the humidor will be open). Having said that, I usually do one of the following. If the floral foam is not removable, I will add PG...

    12 Ronsons for $17!

So far, knock on wood, my account has been OK. I used a debit card.

    more fuentes

Picked up an 858 Rosado and a Hemingway Rosado. Smoked the Hemi. I have to say this was the worst Fuente cigar I have ever smoked (and I smoke a lot of Fuentes) and one of the worst, overall, that I have ever tasted. One of my buddies tried one and thought it was so bad it was worth a phone...

Traveling with on Airplane with Cigars

I carry cigars in an Otterbox, my cutter and a soft flame lighter with me on the plane in my carry-on. I put a cheap torch (Ronson Jetlite) in an approved Otterbox lighter case (originally designed for Zippos, but the lighters are the same size) in checked luggage. I don't carry or pack a good...

    newbie question re: lighter cleaning

OK, that's the first problem. IMO Colibri is not good butane. You need Blazer, Lava, Vector or something that is at least triple refined, and 5X is preferable. When you bleed it, don't assume it's empty when you stop hearing anything come out. Wait a few seconds after you think it's empty...
