  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    I'm smoking a Headline Clear Havana from the 1950's. Great sweet thick smoke. Last one of these I've got and special for me since this is the cigar that started my special 40th birthday weekend if anyone remembers it.

    What do you do with your empty boxes?

    I keep playing with the idea of taking my prized boxes and mounting them to the wall of my porch where I smoke close to the ceiling to look at, but I'd hate to see the weather destroy them over the years. Don't ever see myself with a walk in, but that would be sweet even if most of the boxes...

    What do you do with your empty boxes?

    I have some boxes that I just can't part with like ones signed by the big guns in the industry, or cool boxes like the Frank and Drac. I also have some nice boxes that I could part with, but don't know what to do with them, like an empty SW Maddy box, or a clear havana box over fifty years...

    Best is a tie between Don Carlos Aniv. and RyJ Short Churchill with PSD4 at their heels. Worst was a Harvester Clear Havana that must have gotten moldy at some point in it's life.

    Beads and most humidification devices assume that the humidor will be higher in humidity than the room it sits in. What if every time you open it up you get a blast of 85%. Sure if the humidor was low the beads will suck up some moisture, but soon they can't and each time you open it, you go...

    Good flavor, but burn issues pop up now and then. They are a cuban sandwich not a short filler smoke. Ambos is a better value IMO though.

    To lower humidity, get a tub of Damp Rid from the grocery store. It works fairly quickly, so keep an eye on it.     If you haven't tired them yet, the vacuum seal bags are great for this, dont suck out so much air it crushes the cigars, but just holds them firm. Will all but eliminate splits and damages. Leave them in the bag through the defrost as well, and then just crack open the bags to let them start...
