• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Agreed for the most part, I think 2 row is bland. I've used Munich in place of crystal malt for APAs. It works really well. Sort of a west coast approach leaving the crystal out of the grist but with the added kick in malt character. I like it as a background note but it's definitely a fine...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

This is definitely where brewing comes to taste. I feel like I get plenty of malt character using MO and a bit of biscuit. I mean I can understand each ingredients place it just seems like overkill for a style with so little focus on the malts.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Thats an oddly complex grist for an IPA. Pretty interesting.

With the rate your cranking them out I'd lose track of it all too!

I hear you so far Piloto has been harder to find a great blend for compared to some of the others. Piloto on Piloto has been simple but good. I tried that blend wrapped in both San Andres and Ecuador Habano 2000 ligero. Probably the best stuff I've done with Piloto so far.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Wanted to mention I follow the method of ~30 psi for ~36 hours then lowering to serving pressure. Puts you around 2.0 vol so you ease up the last bit without overcarbing. For wheat beers or other highly carbed styles 48 hours is usually right on the money. Whipped up an imperial blackberry...

    Smoking Vs Collecting

I do a bit of both but for the most part I think cigars are meant to be smoked. Its understandable why some cigars are hard to bring a flame to though and in those cases I'd say as long as you think its not passed its prime your not making a mistake. For example something like a 9 or T52 pig at...

    Blend testing

Well if this is the case it's interesting that blending the same leaf type from the 2 sources made for a better profile than the same leaf from just one source. That or maybe LOs lower primings of Piloto hit my palate better?

Looks like broadleaf and the description sounds like it too. Corojo/criollo/broadleaf is always some mix of creamy, cocoa, and pepper to me depending on the primings. My favorite leaf combo!

    Blend testing

Deep in the blending trenches tonight! Went through my leaf and picked out the thickest primings I had and rolled the same blend in about a 6 X 52 cheroot. So more like half ligero and half seco this time. Much better and the profile is beefed up a bit more too. More cream and sweet spice, less...

    Blend testing

Thats where I think the habano ligero wrapper could make things interesting. This probably works as is for a morning smoke but I think some ligero would do this blend right.

Corona vitola smoked ROTT. Equal parts LO Dom volado and WLT Piloto viso. LO Dom binder for both the binder and wrapper. Creamy, woody (cedar/oak) real light earthy spice. Some sweet spice. Full silky mouthfeel but strength is a light medium. I think the twang from a Connecticut wrap would be...

Smoking a semi homeroll. I had an unbanded stick with a busted wrapper I couldn't remember the source of. So I rewrapped it in Ecuadorian Habano 2000 ligero and carried on. Tasty
