• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Adventures in home rolling

A good bit but not the whole 90% BS you hear people say. Try it out it's a good way to try filler varieties on their own or to just mess around with different pairings. As long as you don't get the leaf too moist they smoke fine.

Anyone else hooked on cheroots? Been smoking them right off the table lately messing with different filler ratios. One of these days I'll have to start wrapping again lol.

Homebrewers - Who is up for a BOTL brew?

What about Catherine II and Peter the Great. Both are part of the supposed history behind the style.

That's normal. Rotate the cigars 90* then press them again. If you do it right it will get rid of the first pair of press marks.

That method is solid just be sure to be patient with it. If you prep everything ahead of time then all your leaf will have a nice even case and be perfect to roll with.

I don't think it's proper entubado, or maybe it is who knows, but I sort of use it as a fold line. Then you can use the stem to help tube the leaf. Sounds weird the way I describe it but it works very well.

You can learn a good bit from his videos but I don't agree with removing the midrib as he does. I've actually heard them mention in Cigar Safari videos they intentionally leave them in for structure, combustion, and flavor.

Homebrewers - Who is up for a BOTL brew?

After some run-ins with crap weather I just brewed this with my brewclub this last Saturday. We ended up with 5gal in the fermenter but it was a bit of a headache. Our refractometer was busted and wouldn't work right and my hydrometer broke so I have no clue what the OG was. Ran into a handful...

    4 Kicks Black Belt Buuckle

I'm on my 3rd box they're great. However the construction has not been as good as it normally is for Crowned Heads. About 1/3 of the cigars I've smoked have had plugs in the end of the 2nd third.

I'm about the same though it depends on the day. Some days I can crank them out in 5 but others it's easily 10-15 lol. I've noticed I'm faster rolling smaller RG stuff as well. It's hard to fully appreciate the speed and skill of a good torcedor until you actually try rolling a cigar. How fast...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

Mash temp, grain bill, yeast attenuation are the 3 main factors here. The more specialty grains vs base malt the higher your FG will probably be. Also the higher temp you mash the higher your FG will be. Then theres yeast attenuation on top of that which sort of goes along with mash temps as...

The fridge step isn't necessary. I throw the whole 1lb bag in the freezer and then store the bag dry. I keep gallon ziploc bags handy so when I'm ready to roll I separate each part of the blend into their own bags to bring it up to case. Usually I'll grab enough for a few rolling sessions at a...

@Ralemonds1s RG is all about how much leaf you put in the filler and how tight you roll. 4 leaves should be about right though for a 50 depending on the primings. If the sticks aren't coming out tight enough try bringing the case of the leaf up a little, this helped me a lot when I first...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

I'm not the most handy guy on the homebrew scene by a long shot but these aren't too hard with the right tools. Coiling the copper around a CO2 tank is pretty easy it's the soldering you can't screw up. @Lezanstar Just a heads up if you soak your IC in starsan on brewday it makes the copper look...
