• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I do about every puff or so and I still have a pretty good palate. Good enough to judge beer at least.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

So after having another chance to look over that recipe I'm noticing the hops got tripled instead of doubled when you scaled up to 10gal. I'm not sure why the software would have recommended that though. I doubt it matters too much at this scale but if anything you should get better hop...

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

For a generalized answer your probably fine lol. I don't see where they list a batch size on that recipe though I'm looking at it on my phone. Is it 5gal? As for soft water it depends on the style. A lot of styles call for soft water. Generally it's lighter stuff.

    Homebrewers - Whats Fermenting?

First things first you'll need the actual AA value of the hops. I use EKG a lot and it ranges a bunch, anywhere from 3.5% up to like 6-7%. You generally won't know what your working with until you have the hops in hand and see what %s the packaging says. The reason you need this is because the...

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

First time trying the corona gorda and I'm realizing I'm late to the party. I wasn't crazy for the other vitolas but this one is something special.

    stronger/fuller the better! recommendations?

Tried the Ortega Black, binder and wrapper are stupid fragile I actually busted a few up just moving them. Not a bad profile at all but not fully in line with what you seem to be after. La Imperiosa is something you'll probably like but it doesn't quite pack the punch or the spice of a Fausto or...

    stronger/fuller the better! recommendations?

These threads are always amusing to me. You can see the difference between the people that smoke full cigars and the outright nic junkies like myself lol. Some of these suggestions are empty stomach breakfast smokes. Your list of favorites is most of the cigars I would recommend for this type of...

#10 L'Atelier 38 Special. They did a real good job keeping the blend consistent with the 46SS on these. Great smoke!

    Today's Smoke (2004-2022 Archive)

Honestly It's one of the most plain styles and doesn't have a lot of room for interpretation. Basically English base malt, little bit of crystal, handful of roast for color/dryness, and almost no hops. It's all about the malty caramel notes and red color, that's about it.

At the brewery whipping up an Irish Red and enjoying a CroMag. Bumped the roast to 2% this time and the color is looking pretty sexy.

#9 Kristoff Ligero Maduro. I think this vitola loses some of the richer cocoa and creaminess the bigger RGs have. But nonetheless a nice smoke and not a jaw breaker!

It would be cool if a vendor picked up on this and ran a Feb special on lanceros. They'd sell a crazy amount of them.

Yea it actually smokes really nice by itself and is stupid easy to roll with. Add broadleaf and you get a nice twang. I like it with criollo or corojo too in bigger vitolas but in smaller RGs I think it shines on its own.
