• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Review: Arturo Fuente Flor Fina (Candela)

If you want to try a candela, the AF 8-5-8 is definitely a go-to stick.

    Cases for Big Ring Gauges?

Found some at Cuban Crafters that hold up to 60 gauge, but I'd like to find something that will go up to 66.

    Cases for Big Ring Gauges?

They vary, but mostly from 5 to 6 inches.

    Cases for Big Ring Gauges?

Yup, the 2-3 cigar sized leather or plastic cases that you can fit in a jacket pocket. Ron, I think I see a marketing opportunity for you... :agreeclen

    Cases for Big Ring Gauges?

Please forgive the cross-post. I have started smoking a fair number of large ring gauge cigars, i.e. 60-66. All of my cigar cases max out somewhere in the mid 50's. Does anyone know of any cases that will hold 60+ gauge cigars (besides ziplok baggies)? TIA.

Yup, dem Tubos are awful purty. Tried a Queen B, but I have to say that I like the King B a lot more. Still eagerly waiting for the Chateau Pyramid. I hope it's available in maduro.

I aborted my first cigar today :(

I have a pack of bamboo barbecue skewers, and I keep a few of them tucked in each of my various humidors and cigar cases for just such an occasion. However, if the draw AND the flavor both suck, nothing is going to help. Just do what you did: cut your losses and move on.

    Most reliable butane lighter

I'm with you on both counts. However, the Z-Plus inserts seem to crap out after a couple of years. But at a little over 10 bucks a pop, you can't complain too much about that. The X-tend is, overall, the best lighter out there, if you're willing to pay the price. As Ferris Bueller said, "If...

    Most reliable butane lighter

The only lighter I've ever had that lights EVERY SINGLE TIME is the duPont x-tend. If you want reliability, it's worth the money.

    Most-Smoked Stick?

Until they were discontinued and went out of stock everywhere, it was RP Edge Sumatra Torpedos. Now it's (take a deep breath: it's a long name): Genuine Counterfeit Cuban 1958 Pre-Embargo Edicion Limitada #2's. They're sold by JR and made by Nick Perdomo. My favorite $2+ cigar.

Tell me about lime-green Claro wrappers...

Maybe our posts crossed in cyberspace, but I think you and I are 100% in agreement.

Tell me about lime-green Claro wrappers...

Candela, also called claro claro (claro is really a light tan) was so popular in the U.S. back in the '50's and '60's that it was also called American Market Selection or AMS. I know, 'cause I was there. :bdaycake: The green comes from a lot of chlorophyl. Candelas have a high level of...

Finally bought myself a Xikar cutter.

I have both a Palio and a Xikar. While both are excellent, I think the Palio is slightly better. I leave the Palio at home and carry the Xikar with me, so I won't be quite as crushed if I lose it. I also carry the Xikar multi-tool scissors on my key ring, so I'm never without a cutter.

Finally bought myself a Xikar cutter.

Yeah, my experience with Xikar lighters is that they work great, but their finishes are not very durable.

    Cigars and Health

Yup. Last time I had a routine check up with a cardiologist, he said that he smoked cigars, himself. My dentist isn't thrilled, but hasn't tried to get me to quit, either.

    So what'cha readin'???

Just got the most recent volume in the Southern Vampire Chronicles series (the Sookie Stackhouse books that HBO's True Blood is based on). Haven't started it yet. Just finished Neon Rain, one of the first books in the Dave Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke. I'm also re-reading Justine, the...
