• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Free Xikar!

So I met Kurt from Xikar at the IPCPR in Vegas this July. Really nice guy, but I only got to talk to him for a minute because he was busy. Well we exchanged cards and talked about some reviews I was looking into doing, and he said he was pretty interested. So yesterday I was surprised by a...

    Bourbon...

For cheaper stuff I like Knob, Buffalo trace, and the WL Weller special reserve. NOT the expensive William Larue Weller from the Antique Collection, just the cheap shit with the green top on it. Still great stuff! For more money I like Stagg and William Larue Weller. Still trying out a lot...

Here's my diminishing Tatuaje collection. Since I got a job at a cigar shop, I just can't justify buying boxes of cigars unless they're really rare. I've got the entire Tatuaje and Cabaiguan lineup at my disposal at work! The Jibaro box and the RC box are both missing a couple sticks (Jibaros...

    Going to Colorado this week...

I don't think I can make that -- I'm heading down to Colorado Springs this weekend for my mom's birthday. There's also a bar called the Celtic Tavern that is pretty close to the stadium. The last time I went there they allowed smoking (its' a bar/restaurant), but I would call and double check...

    Going to Colorado this week...

Denver has a handful of good ones. There's Cigars on 6th, the Robusto Room, Churchill's, and a few others. I'm about an hour north in Greeley, but let me know when you'll be in Denver and I'll see if I can swing by! What are you doing out in Vail and Copper? TYLER

    ISO Cigar Mechanic

Try cutting a plugged one in half. They're As, so you'll still have two decent-sized cigars. The problem with a lot of smokes is that the filler is twisted like a corkscrew. Cutting the cigar in half will get rid of this problem. Poking the cigar with a draw tool will work briefly, but the...

See ya in a week! I'm on vacation!

Sounds like a great time, minus the grandparents on the beach! At least she didn't walk over to you like that and yell at you about your cigar! TYLER

What has suprised you lately (good or bad)?

I had some cigars today that were pleasantly surprising! Reyes Family Classic and Premier lines, along with the Cienfuegos line. TYLER

    Speaking of Illusione cigars.....

While you were chatting it up with the big guy, I talked to mustache man for a little bit (sorry, forgot his name!). I had always wondered if the MK-Ultra referred to all those sweet mind control experiments that the CIA did back in the day. The code name for one of the projects was MK-Ultra...

What has suprised you lately (good or bad)?

Haven't tried too much new stuff recently. Apparently the Cruzados are fantastic, as are the new Augusto Reyes maduros. As for negatives, it's been a horrible week for me. Here's what I've tried that I have been just absolutely disappointed with: -2005 God of Fire Double Robusto by Don...

    Boston!!! August 9-12

Fun trip indeed! Didn't get to meet Rich, but I smoked a couple cigars at Cigar Masters. Pretty cool place! Also talked to the guys at Gloucester St. Tobacco for a while and they were nice too. TYLER

    Best sticks to age

I have found that Corojo wrappers tend to benefit very well from age compared to other NC wrappers. I have some of the La Aurora Preferidos tubos from 2004, and the Corojo ones taste far better than any of the others by a long shot. TYLER

    Bahia Gold #4 5.5 x 42

It was the gold maduro, I believe. That first one I had, the churchill-sized one, was fantastic. The smaller ones I didn't like so much. Just not my flavor profile. TYLER

    Bahia Gold #4 5.5 x 42

I'm not sure what's up with these, either. I smoked a churchill at the trade show and it was phenomenal, and then I smoked some of these smaller ones afterward and they have that dirty, mildewy taste. Just like the new Davidoff Winston Churchills. TYLER

    Your Best Recommendation

Opus, Anejo, Hemi Maduro, DC Stanford's 90th, maybe an ESG, or something along those lines. A God of Fire would be cool, too. I always like smoking cigars in tubes for special occasions, so then I can keep the tube later on. GoFs and La Aurora Preferidos both come in pretty nice tubes. TYLER
