If all the pipes posted so far or that I've seen, only two look good two more with a saddle.

This one doesn't look very authorish to me, but I do like it.

This one looks like an author and the trim piece breaks up the lines to make it look nice. However if like the trim piece to be far less bulbous.

All that being said, I still don't know which way I'd like to go. I think the potential of a fugly pipe being achieved is very easy with trying to mess with the classic lines of an author. If the Carver says it's a good clentcher as is, which is always a concern for me because I clench a lot while smoking my pipes, I think I'd like to see a classic shape with a brindle stem.

Yes, I'm flopping worse than a politician. And taking a safer decision of not ending up with something I'd pass on.

Nice work Clint, this pipe will be a beauty. I have voted and am in favor of classic brindle(Cumberland) stem along with a ring transition. Look forward to this beauty.

With the overwhelming majority opting to splurge for the extras, there's no need for a runoff poll.
This year's pipe will be a contrast stained sandblasted Author with trim ring and Cumberland stem.
