I will echo going to more contrastAnd, is there anyone wanting the stain to stay as in the demo, against moving to more contrast in the stain?

The stem won't taper straight to the button. There will be about a quarter inch in front of the button, so those who do can clench, before the taper starts. So, to recap where we're at:
-Author shape
-Traditional tapered stem- Cumberland
-TNB clench (not sure what that is but sounds good to me)
Question now is stain:
Anybody have examples of what they might like?
More contrast sounds good to me!

Unfortunately, to get the nice deep blast there's a lot more time involved. TNB says it actually takes longer than finishing a smooth pipe, and that's assuming all the briar will even work for the desired blast.a deeper, curtain-style blast with more contrast and a standard stem made of brindle Cumberland and I'm sold
not deep just deeper than the demo; lacks depthUnfortunately, to get the nice deep blast there's a lot more time involved. TNB says it actually takes longer than finishing a smooth pipe, and that's assuming all the briar will even work for the desired blast.
if blasts take longer why are they so much cheaper?Unfortunately, to get the nice deep blast there's a lot more time involved. TNB says it actually takes longer than finishing a smooth pipe, and that's assuming all the briar will even work for the desired blast.
I think they are able to use lower quality briar as the imperfections and pitting doesn't matterif blasts take longer why are they so much cheaper?
Seconded, a dark stain with a light contrast ring (not too bulbous, like @CaptainRon mentioned) and I'm still partial to a saddle bit. But if it ends up tapered maybe I'll convince that ginger who shares a name with me to make a saddle bit as wellCan I first the trim rings? I like them a bunch.

He probably will but he will have to lick it first. Or maybe that's just my pipes.Seconded, a dark stain with a light contrast ring (not too bulbous, like @CaptainRon mentioned) and I'm still partial to a saddle bit. thirded. propose a smooth trim ring in line with the pipe shank and the stem.Seconded, a dark stain with a light contrast ring (not too bulbous, like @CaptainRon mentioned) and I'm still partial to a saddle bit. Somewhere between size 1 and size 6Oh boy... Did I get us started down the wrong line of questioning.
Hopefully to get us back on topic...what's the bowl diameter dimension?
