Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
First step, move out of NY!Really need to start researching what I need to do to have this in NY.
It's scary how fast that happens, isn't it?Don't own a gun and have never been interested in having one. Don't have any objections to it either. Have not searched for guns or the like on the internet.
BUT, 4 minutes after I opened this thread, my yahoo advertisements included "concealed carry" stuff. Kinda crazy.
For what it is: a single-stack, sub-compact gun in popular center-fire calibers... it is phenomenal. The safety is stupid, but I simply leave it in the off position, and it's low-profile enough that I won't accidentally activate it. Add a good holster and good sights (the stock ones are garbage), and it's ready to rock. Are you happy with the shield? A few other guys from the FD I work at say it works well for them as a CC. I'm going to rent it this week for as test drive.
In reality, if you are using a pistol in a defensive situation, at anything over 7 yards they better have a gun already pointed in your direction... You WILL be arrested and charged at 50 yards. I notice many people confuse yards with feet when talking about shooting, so I thought I'd add this for clarification. If you are shooting across a football field, you need a rifle. I know guys who can hit a steel plate at 100 yards with a 1911, but the factors that play into a shot like that make it completely impractical and irresponsible in a defensive scenario. /threadhijack ha ha.do I care if I can hit at 50-75yds...yes, but in a defensive situation in most states you'll be under investigation why you did not try to leave at that range.
Tueller Drill. Not exactly true. They've proven at up to 23' a guy w/ a knife in hand and you w/o your weapon drawn, and the knife wins (close to your 21'). Also they don't have to have a gun pointed at you or even a gun on them for you to feel threatened and in fear for your life, which in Ohio is what you need to defend yourself with lethal force. Each state is a bit different and every LEO agency will treat things differently based on the circumstances present for the situation.
I'm familiar with that exercise. I was speaking in a generality for the sake of making the point. I'm sorry if the message was lost because of my choice of example. I'm a firearms instructor in Florida, which is a castle doctrine and stand your ground state. Even still you should always plan to be arrested and charged. Your attorney is going to have a hell of a time arguing that you were in imminent danger (not the same as perceived like it appears you are referring to) if you take a shot at over 7-10 yards. I've worked with Gutmacher, one of the top firearms attorneys in the US, and this is his general stance. Take it for what it's worth. Not exactly true.
