  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Feb. 9th Tri State Herf

Are you coming to the Tri State herf?

I finally got through to Joe after 2 days of playing phone tag! Here is the deal for the guys that don't want to use the beverage package, which includes beer, wine and soda. If you don't want the beverage package, Joe is going to charge a $10 cutting fee per each cigar you smoke. To be honest, I think this is reasonable as he is supplying the place for us to smoke that will be ours exclusively. Heck I think I dropped a hundred bucks at the last herf I went to for booze and food alone, and that wasn't in a room that was just for us.

Anyway, that's the deal and most of us are going to use the package anyway. Looks like there will be at least 10 of us, could be 15.

Start packing the smokes boys!!!!
That is an interesting approach. $10 per cigar? How would he track that?

Considering those drinking mixed drinks or straight liquor are supporting their ability to smoke in the establishment by buying mixed drinks or straight liquor from the bar, requiring those folks to pay $30 for unlimited beer, wine, and soda in addition to what they would already be buying seems strange. We all know everyone is going to smoke more then 3 cigars. Besides the fact that only charging $30 for the beer and wine is a steal on it's own.

Might as well buy the package regardless of what you are drinking.

I'm no trying to start an argument or anything and the guy is free to run his business the way he wants I just felt like commenting on how it is an interesting approach.

My guess is the 10$ cutting fee is just a statemnt, like saying... hey.... we are giving a nice spot, just do your part to help us pay our rent.
It's not a business that makes a lot of money.
If you buy your cigars there, and don't take the package, they will be fine with it.
If you bring your own cigars, and don't buy the package, well, then you better buy a few glasses of wine (at which point, get the package).
If you are not spending any money.... well, then you are just using the establishment.

I imagine he would have the guy that is bringing down drinks to us check to see if anyone that didn't pay for the package is smoking, and go over and ask for the $10 fee. If he notes a different band, charge another $10 bucks. Or hang out with us the whole time and note how many cigars a guy smoked.

I agree that the $30 dollars is very reasonable for the drinks and use of the room.

Considering the last two herfs I attended at Azucar he may be losing money by only charging $30.

Both bills ended up being around $75 per person. That may have included dinner though...can't remember.

It is a weird way....it seems like he's going to lose money on booze and is over charging on the cutting fee.

I'd rather just buy some cigars.

$30 is cheap as hell no reason for anyone not paying that for 4 + hours to hang with friends and drink anything in the place.

You can not just go into a place and smoke your own cigars and drinks its not right no real lounge will let that happen unless your a member.

They are a business not everyone's living room it costs a lot to keep places like this afloat its sad not seeing some people support them.

Wish all could have come but everything has a price in life even herfs.LOL

caudio51 the $10.00 I think it is to keep the cheap asses out more of a statement as me and others here know Joe and Andre are class acts who go out of there way for their customers.

To tell you the truth i like the $10.00 cutting fee keeps all the cheapies out of my hangout.

I think what he is trying to stop is some guys that just come in for the herf and smoke their own stuff, not buy any drinks or cigars from HD. I don't think he's losing money on the booze, I think he's making something, but not much that's for sure. I'm sure Joe is hoping that we'll buy some smokes also, but more than that, he is charging us a small amount to be nice in the hopes that he will generate more regular customers. In any event, it is what it is and let's smoke some cigars and have fun on saturday!

I'm not on the list yet, but I just want to confirm that me and a buddy (Lukasz) should be coming and both going in for the drink package. There might be a third with us, but might not be confirmed on that till the weekend.
