I ordered a 28 bottle Edgestar from these guys

OOPS, not enough posts for a link - livingdirect dot com

I've been worried about temp - usually above 70f in the winter, probably higher in the summer. I'm almost always gone for May/June/July, can't really rely on the spouse to obsessively check on the stash.

Get's here tomorrow, I'm planning on retiring the coolidor. I'm assuming an Oasis + and a tube of beads is adequate.

If you have a Cigar Oasis type of device do you still need beads?
No you don't. However I also use beads. The beads help to bring the humidity level back up to where it should be faster. That way after you open & shut the door a few times it helps set it right back. Also they will help soak up any humidity that may occur in the unit. Then they recirculate it.

I just purchased the Avanti Model 28 Bottle Wine Chiller - Super Conductor Technology http://www.avantiproducts.com/products/id/393

Now comes the fun part of purchasing everything needed and setting the fridge up. Just wonder how it compares to the 28 bottle Vinotemp. I know a few BOTL have various Avanti models any pros/cons? And I'll be sure to post real pictures once I receive the unit and clean it out.

I'd get an external temp regulator. I love my Avanti.

I recently purchased the same model Avanti. It's not plugged in right now...temp is staying at 67*, 1.5 lbs of beads seem to be holding 65% just fine with the drain taped over.

I did order two shelves and one tray for it...will probably be awhile before they arrive.

I'm looking forward to the summer so I can see how she holds the temp when plugged in.

Same here, don't have it plugged in and it holds steady at 67-68 temp and 65%. However, I keep this 28 bottle and my 16 bottle in my office which I keep at 68 degrees.

I have mine plugged in and well lets just say the dang thing doesn't reach 65..it gets to 57...and the inside might be 59. So I'm going to give them a call 1st, before I go drilling holes and what not. But I've only got 3 small bowls of distilled water inside.

An external temp regulator would be a huge help.
