I'd like to know more myself.

Cheaper meerschaum pipes are usually pretty small and they are pressed in to the shape and not carved from a block so they don't smoke as cool. Plus cheaper ones usually use lesser quality stems. It's kind of a "you get what you pay for" situation.

I've been watching their ebay store for a while! Some nice pieces.

As far as quality meers- look for block meerschaum and a push-pull tenon. The screw-in tenon are very prone to issues and breakage. The best quality meerschaum is Baki, IMP and Altinok; CAO has made some good meers in the past and SMS is quality as well. Meers do ghost unlike most will tell you they don't. Do not allow your meer to build cake. After each smoke take a paper towel and push it in and really clean out the bowl. They seem to smoke better without cake.

No clue! I thought I've seen people clean them up back to white... but I've never even touched a meer so I have no clue!
There are lots of meer lore around. Supposedly aros color better but I've found heavy nicotine does well.
I read about aros coloring better as well. Ive heatd if your going for color to make sure your hands are clean if you touch the bowl while smoking or hold the stem so you dont remove the wax coating. An I've heard it doesn't matter.
Wow - from what I know, Rattray is a respectable pipe maker. This is about as close as I have come to pulling the trigger. What a nice pipe:
