Nicotine is a stimulant and increases the pulse rate and blood pressure of the smoker. Dizziness is one of the first symptoms as well as nausea.

Eating before smoking helps balance your blood sugars and raises your metabolic rate so your body handles the nicotine better. If you smoke on an empty stomach your blood sugar level is lower, your metabolism is slowed down and the spike for blood pressure from the nicotine is felt much stronger.
