  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

"Interested" as well. My Grandmother wants me to visit again and I drove to your area last time no problem. As of right now October sounds very good to me and is before the weather here gets too crappy. October in FL is outstanding.

The main issue we will have to deal with is smoking areas. There are multiple hotels right around the airport and really that's a decent area to be in as it is fairly central to just about everything (and 15 minutes from my house). Most are, unfortunately, Non-Smoking. Probably the best central location will be something basically around the corner from the Airport between the International Plaza mall and Westshore Mall which are...I would say, less than 1.5 miles from each other. International Plaza has a decent outdoor group of restaurants and Bars called Bay Street:List of restaurants and bars
I'd just have to head over there to double check who has outside seating and who doesn't. Once we really get things nailed down I would also look into the local hotels to see who could best accomodate folks coming in from out of town.

We would have to rely on myself and the other locals who will attend for transportation unless those coming in from out of town wanted to go in together for a rental (probably the best idea).

Ybor City is not far at all from this central location and would make a good day trip to visit the local shops and check out the cigar history. And for those who need nightlife, you can't beat Ybor City at night, though you could get beatEN if you aren't careful. In all seriuosness, Ybor City is hit or miss at night as far as safety goes...I don't frequent the place, but some of you might wish to. *cough* Clay *cough* Greg *cough*

Being Tampa, it would be a sin not to get a round or two (or more) of golf in during this shindig. There are literally hundreds of courses within short driving distance. October prices aren't wonderful, but we can find affordable golf.

Tampa also being a gun friendly place there are plenty of indoor and outdoor ranges if we have enough people interested. Depending on the place, you can rent something to shoot, or I have a couple of handguns and a rifle to go around. Just one more activity we can look at.

This all of course assumes we want to keep everyone in a central location nearby. There is always the beaches which are probably 30-45 minutes from the airport depending on which beach and what route you take. That being said, I'm not familiar with the areas near the beaches and how they would work for a bunch of drunken cigar smokers. Basically I think the beach would limit our options to a lesser or greater degree.

Some random thoughts as this fleshes itself out.

What ever we do is fine with me. All I need is food, a chair, a few drinks, and cigars.

sounds about right. Everyone gets kicked out of Coyote Ugly one time or another. Me on the other hand, more than one occasion. I think the last time was b/c I ordered a drink and when I got it walked away. A bouncer grabed me and told me something about walking away without paying and watching me do it. I told him that I had a tab and told him to ask the bartender about it. I guess I said some other words or called him something but he said that he doesnt like when others talk back and that I was out of there. It was all very fuzzy. He was a prick.

Just letting eveyone know that you also might want to check on flights into Orlando as well. Maybe cheeper. It is only about an hour and a half drive to Tampa from OIA (without traffic). Just trying to give you guys some options.
