  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I didn't see a thread for today and since I'm sure Todd is spending quality time with his new arrival I thought I'd go ahead and start one.

I'm having a particularly enjoyable CoRo in honor of Anderson Wilson Wascher.

Nothing today but I have two and a half hours of DAD time scheduled for tomorrow morning so I can smoke this 1985 RyJ Tubo I got from Craig a while back.

No Habanos for me but since theres no N/C thread I'll post it here.

Had a HDM Dark Sumarta Espresso Size and a Diamond Crown Maximus Toro at the weekly herf.

The HDM goes great with coffee IMO. The DCM I haven't had in a real long time. Pretty one dimensional, but a good smoke.

I smoked that '85 RyJ Churchill Tubo while cruising the Virginia countryside. It was absoulutely sublime. The smoke was so smooth and rich it was almost as if I was drinking it!

I had some more time than originally planned so I swung by the Tobacconist and picked up a Savinelli pipe and got 2 ounces of tobacco for free with it. I chose the Old Virginia Tobacco Company's house Balkan Blend and packed a bowl for the ride home. It was pretty darn good.

Last night after work went over to a friends Spanish/Portugese restaurant and enjoyed a P2 at the bar. The first third was okay but not drawing well and very subdued. Once I got too the second third it opened up nicely and showed much more flavor and spice to it. It had a very nice med. dark oily wrapper. If only the first third could have been as good as the second and third third of it I'd say awesome but it still was very nice and relaxing in fact.

I had a siglo I last night. It was very harsh, and seemed very young. I could sense some wonderful undertones, and puffing very lightly seemed to help.

Sat around at Florio's eating, drinking, smoking, and chatting with some folks. John Perry Barlow among them. A friend of a friend. Haven't seen him in a while. Barlow's was a songwriter for the Grateful Dead and co-founder of the EFF. May be meeting up with him and Shawn Fanning tomorrow.

I just finished about a quarter of a bowl of the local tobacconist's Old Balkan Blend. It's pretty good and well worth the price (it was free with my new pipe). Trying to establish some "cake" on the very bottom of he bowl.

Finally getting onto pipes couldn't have come at abetter time really...I have NO time for a cigar lately.

ca. 85 Punch Exquisito
Man, I really need to start buying boxes of these little 5"x40ish MMs. They really are a great alternative to a Perla or PC when you've only got 45 minutes and A)don't to only smoke 1/2 of a larger cigar and B) don't care if you decide to pitch it due to construction flaws. (kind of the same, but not). Plus, at less than 3/4 the price of a PC, you can buy more boxes for variety sake. I know some days I am dying for this profile or that. Rarely would I have the urge to smoke through one box straight regardless of what it is.
Some great ones of the size are as follows:
PL Panetela
RJ Corinitos en cedro
RA Somethingorother (can't remember now!)
Punch Exquititos or Belvideres
Partagas PC en Tubo
Bolivar Bonitas

I recommend this vitola completely! Yeah, some of these vary size slightly, but the fact of having medium MMs around is what I'm suggesting. I love the Lag3 size, but sometimes something a bit thicker and more "cigar-like" is desired. That's generally when I'll reach for one of these.
