Wouldn't you like to know?
I really prefer to us a torch. Even when indoors I toast the foot until I can get an even glow. Once I make sure it is lit I let it cool a little then smoke. It can be done with a soft flame just takes forever and harder to pinpoint the fre small spots that don't light.

I guess if I was to draw on the cigar while lighting I would go with soft flame though

I voted for a soft flame because when I can use one I will. However if I'm outside I'll obviously use a torch

I smoke outside 99% of the time and I use a zippo with the torch insert. The zippo was a bday present from my wife many years ago that she had engraved and I felt bad about not using it.
I would love to get one of those, but I have a real bad track record with Zippos. Had an engraved one for a HS graduation gift, engraved one from Afghanistan, & one from Egypt: all stolen.

I use a dual jet engine lighter. I read that using a zippo isn't good, so I purchased a torch. Now im reading that these guys aren't the ideal choice either. Haha.

I use my Zippo's with the butane insert all the time. Never had a problem although one finely gave out after a year. I just replaced the insert which cost about $12 and Back to buisness. I would like to have a few other lighters but there's something personal about Zippo's.
This is the one I use...

Do you see the hull number on the Navy ship? "51"! That is the same ship number my Granfather was on in WWII. USS Buckley Destroyer Escort DE51. What are the odds of that!? I showed it to him not to long before he passed. This lighter means alot to me and another reason I'll always have it with me.

If accessible, which it typically is, I actually prefer 2 use a cedar stick but it was not an option I saw on here.

Zippo makes a product called the Z Plus Converter. It's an insert for your Zippo lighter that converts it 2 a butane torch. I still love using a cedar stick but the torch seems to be the most commonly preferred method.

Xikar Flash, it's a single-torch butane lighter - works like a charm.

For those who love the Zippo look and feel, get a Zippo Blue insert for your existing Zippo lighter. Burning butane (a gas) is much better on cigars than burning the oil-base lighter fluid. (you're ruining the cigar experience with lighter fluid). Just my $0.02...

A creme brulee torch, no joke. Large tank, lockable flame, well constructed, and it has a soft flame setting. Creates a cherry without a puff, reducing any ill-effect of introducing too much heat (and butane contaminants) into the cigar body. I only use 5x refined butane.

Prefer wooden matches with a Zippo as a backup. Spent too much money on expensive Butane lighters that don't last long. I know I'm probably not caring for them as I should. Am looking into cedar spills for a change.

I prefer to use wooden matches when I can. I truly think the flavor is better. Sometimes I use the extra long BBQ lighting matches. Always have a torch on me for windy situations.
