I really enjoy great wines and am always looking to try new ones. Latest great one I had was Opolo Mountain Zin 2008.

The vintage (year) Jose? The reason I would like everyone to post years is one year could taste completely different than another.

Hard to pin down a single "favorite", but one wine that really surprised me recently was the 2007 Kathryn Kennedy Lateral (Santa Cruz Mts.)

Awesome Bordeaux blend (Right Bank) that holds it's own against wines 3-4x the price ($25).

My favorite wine to date was a 2003 Stonestreet Legacy from Alexander Valley, CA. To be honest, I have really become a huge fan of all Alexander Valley wines since this bottle.

2007 in Napa is the greatest vintage of all time for Cabernet's. My favorite is 2007Caymus Special Selection, 2007 Continuum, and 2007 Robert Mondavi Reserve. Fred Schrader is the Man of the Year for 2007 Napa's with several 100 point scores. He even started making cigars to commemorate the achievement with "Sparky Hispaniola Cigars" and the line Para Ti.

2006 Chimney Rock Cabernet is one of the best cabs I've drank all year. Super silky mouthfeel, complex, and long finish.

2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 Monteviejo from Argentina is good.

2009 Gamay's from France

2006 is one of my favorite vintages from Bordeaux and Southern Rhone/CDP due to them being more classic in styling than the gigantic fruit and tannic 2005's, 2007's, and 2009's.

Check Out:
2003/2004 Brunello's
Any vintage from last 5 for Barolos and Barbarescos
2005/2006/2009/2010 Bordeaux's
2006/2007/2009 Southern Rhone
2009 Northern Rhone
Any vintage from last 3-4 from Washington for Cabernets and Syrahs
Any vintage before 2008 from Mendoza

Here is some stuff that won't break the bank, that taste like you did break the bank

2008 "The Maverick" Zinfandel, Amador County
Devious mischief abounds from these dry-farmed, head pruned, old vine vineyards in the Shenendoah Valley. This Sierra Foothill Valley is renowned for its old vine Zin vineyards which produce a wine that is chewy and spicy, rich with blackberry fruit and a hint of velvet vanilla oak. Blended with a touch of Syrah from the Bailey Vineyard. Maverick...The Jam Bomb...mischievous fun!

If you are lucky enough to find the 2007 let me know where. I only have 3 bottles left. I will buy every bottle I can find.

Another favorite of ours is 2008 Rombauer Zinfandel

http://www.rombauer.com//index.cfm?method=storeproducts.showList&productcategoryid=84dc6ffb-ce0a-a3b4-c1c2-40ae3e261704

We opened a bottle of the 2003 Rombauer Zinfandel on our 17th Wedding Anniversary a couple of weeks and it was an all time favorite of ours.

You are usually very safe with any Cab or Zin from Paso Robles or Napa Valley

I am very partial to Cab and Zins. Pinot Noir and Merlots normally take a back seat to good a Cab or Zins. I prefer Cabs and Zin for the same reason I am such a Tatuajes, they are usually bolder, stronger and spicier. I like a big wine like I like a big cigar.

To xddco:

Woo wee! Michael and David Rapture and Gluttony. Very good wines at very high alcohol levels, heavily oaked, and with huge fruit. Not always my kind of wine, but they are excellent examples of that style of wine making.

If you like that, then anything Mollydooker will be right up your alley!

My favorite go to wine are the pinots and cabs from Sojourn Cellars in Sonoma. Their winemaker won Winemaker of the Year honors for Sonoma County, and consistently have put out great wines every single year. They are mailing list only wines but I'm pretty sure they are still taking members.

A couple recent faves:

* 2005 Domaine Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes
* 2003 Castelnau Suduiraut Sauternes

(The Sauternes is great with an Epernay, by the way.)

Michael,
This was our favorite as well. We ordered a bottle at a wine bar and the waitress came back, said they were out. She suggested the 08 Opolo Mountain Zin and we liked it as much if not a tad better than the Rombauer. Be*-M* has it for $29
