Had a bottle of 2005 Coup de Foudre Cabernet Sauvignon for my BD. It was excellent!

Do you find it does the trick?
I've never used the glass decanters, but have one of these aerators. I like the effect and think it was worth it. Much easier to clean than any of those decanters.

Some of my favorites all revolve around a good wine with steak. Malbecs have to be my current ones, Santa Julia has a nice one from 2006 or 2007. It's been a few months since we had some nice wine, so I'd have to really thin hard about any other names and vintages.

Fat Bastard (Thierry and Guy) makes a nice Sauvignon Blanc that goes great with smoked salmon on french bread slices, a great appetizer.

I like mine to be at least 12% ABV and less than 15% ABV. Prefer red, white and pink will do the trick as well.

My favorite vintages are:

Napa Cabs-2006, 2007
Oregon Pinot-2008
Washington Syrahs/Cabs- 22006, 2007, 2008, 2009
Sonoma Pinot/Cabs- 2005, 2008, 2009
Argentine Malbec- Any vintage before 2008
Bordeaux- 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009
Southern Rhone- 2005, 2007, 2009
Burgundy- 2005, 2007, 2009
Brunello- 2003, 2004
Barolo- 2003, 2005

Most Italian vintages are pretty good and good wine can be found all over the country. I consider Italian wines to be the perfect marriage between good fruit and terroir driven.

I drink french wine the most. It is the best priced wine for quality that can be found, hands down!

I agree. Keep it classic (around 13.5% abv). The trend now days is to see how high alcohol contents can go by super extracting the grapes which strips the character of the wine so it has no sense of place and justs tastes like fruit forward-alcoholic wine. I try and pay close attention to who is making the wine more than the brands.
