Almost impossible, but some tops for me are :

Miles Davis Kind of Blue
Van Morrison Astral Weeks
Jimmy Buffett Changes in Lattitudes
Beatles Abbey Road
The Who Live at Leeds

For every album on the list, twenty more pop into my head.

finally - someone else with a jazz album - and a great one at that, although I always preferred Bitches Brew.

That is great, too. I heard KOB first, so it was the impression. Monks Dream another mind blower for me. Not the greatest jazz of all time but when I first heard it, wow. Music is way too big for 5, glad I have a terabyte streaming hard drive hooked into my Squeezebox.

I can't say these are my only top 5 as I think that they shift around quite a bit, but when I think back on it these are what stick out right now that I didn't see previously mentioned:

Nine Inch Nails- The Downward Spiral
Tool- Undertow
Stone Temple Pilots- Purple
La Coka Nostra- A Brand You Can Trust
Demigodz- Killmatic

I can absolutely garuntee that tomorrow would be a different 5. All depends on my mood...

I've got the LTE first album. I have to admit it's not my favorite. For the DT spinoff stuff, I actually prefer LaBrie's solo work oddly enough.

In terms of Progressive Metal, one I'm really digging right now is an Australian band called Caligula's Horse. If you've not heard it, check out their track "Vanishing Rites" on youtube.
