I really like the Savinelli line....a lot. I'm looking at a 2nd one from my local B&M and also a freehand Nording as well. Over time I'll slowly get a collection going. Some seem more in depth care wise end also. I'm into the low maintenance pipes or ones that won't take more time to clean than actually sit down and smoke.
Seriously, you are making me feel better about "cheaping" out lol. Thanks!

On a side note - that dude Nording once introduced a line of cigars (he might still have one?). I met him at a hurf. Supper nice guy. Supporting Eric if you knew him, would come easy.

My Dr. grabow pipe was $15 if it makes you feel better! And I still smoke in it! I'm looking at one that's $50. My Savinelli was $135. I won't pay any more than $175 for a pipe. Unless it's a unique, one of a kind special edition.

Update # 2

I smoked a bowl today!! Woot. A bowl of the Dunhill Morning Pipe in my old pipe.

I packed it like a champ. I did the loose, a little harder, and then a little harder yet. When I was done, I threw my finger in the bowl and rotated it around my finger to bind the tobacco. I don't know if that's what did it or not (the twisting), but the draw was awesome, and the bowl never went out!

I smoked it a bit too fast I am guessing as the gurgle showed up pretty quickly. That said, I never got bit. So yay lol!!

I tell you what - I need to smoke more often, slower or something. For a "morning blend," it tasted pretty heavy to me lol. To be fair, I haven't smoked anything in weeks. So that probably has a lot to do with it... but all said and done, it was a really positive experience. It took a little longer than I recalled to smoke an entire bowl, I parked behind the house and enjoyed for a full 10 minutes before pulling in.

Spring strong sweet tall green grass grow...
Once you get confident with the pipe, though, try it without the filter again. I smoked with a filter for the first time in a long time yesterday with my new Brigham (it came with one installed) and while the draw was noticeably dryer, I found the flavors a bit muted.
Just my opinion, anyway.
Personally, I'll give it a few more tries with the filter, but I fully expect I'm going right back to smoking without.

It happens to me also. But I'm a fast cigar smoker too. Maybe because I'm a big boy full of hot air??? LOL. Thursday night I smoked my pipe and took me about 45 mins. But the big pat on the back was I felt like I packed it decent. I wouldn't say perfect but better than before.

Work in progress and glad things went well for you!

Update 2.5:

So this isn't so much an update as a Warning (Will Robinson) for other guys like me with... the dreaded Acquisition Disorder.

I have smoked one bowl - one! And since that bowl, I have done nothing but read reviews on tobacco's and looked at pipes for sale. Whoa lol! I have caught myself placing tobacco's in my cart thinking they'll age well - only to remind myself, I have no idea what I even like in pipe tobacco. I have placed pipes in my cart - only to remind myself I have no idea what shape of pipe I prefer and/or if I am even sold on the filter system or not lol.

I want a cellar! Who wouldn't lol!! But I am not going to do what I did to myself with cigars lol. I learnt that lesson already. I have had to replace crappy humidors that seemed cool, smoked a ton of dog rockets, and bought boxes on others recommendations only to hate them lol.

I guess when it all comes down to it - what I am trying to tell myself is (and anyone with my affliction), enjoy the hobby as you would enjoy the pipe... with long, slow draws worrying about tomorrow when that day comes.

Well said. But allow me to... enable... your newfound habit <grin>

With pipes, you can go on EBay, find an estate pipe for $20 that, new, was $300.

I triple-dog-dare you to buy a previously smoked Opus X.

I love my pipe collection and, yes, I have my eye on a few high-end pipes that I find beautifully hand-crafted. In time, those will come. But I am equally in love with my collection of estate pipes that I've restored (and are waiting to be restored).

So? Did you buy it?
Man... I was so going to throw a bid in there, but got distracted until, you guessed it, two minutes after the auction expired. Pretty sweet looking pipe that was!

I am so upset - I think only the Big Ben will ease my pain :)!

For those who are wondering - I was looking at this pipe on eBay - pretty funky:
