Maks' handiwork is pretty damn nice. Too many years ago, I made my living putting joinery into custom yachts. So I know wood butchery. Here is the best I can say about Maks' work is take a look at this:

When these two cleats that clamp the mold shut reach the ends of their threads, both cleats wind up dead perpendicular across the mold. Now, that's what I'd call careful attention to detail'

I waxed the threads with Skidmore's, both male and female. Skidmore's is intended to waterproof leather; but I figured a little beeswax would lube the wooden threads, and thus protect them:

I'll set these on the hearth this evening, and that should make the wax sink in nice.

Fit and finish are pretty damn choice

You could make a super long eight inch Churchill in this mold if you liked

I figure this ought to be just right in the evening after work. I can pull out one binder leaf, one wrapper leaf, and a fist of filler. Wrap and bind one leftwards, the other rightwards, from the right and left wrapper halves. Don't have time on a week night to kick out a batch of ten; but two ought to fit the schedule.

Very nice mold.
Yup, I would like to have a pile of those molds.

What I wonder is, what is the need of the big screws, vs just putting some weight on it as normal? I had the wingnuts on those LO molds and on some custom molds I had done early on at custommade.com, and eventually I realized all I had to do was put a few dumbbells on there and save a lot of effort.

Really beautiful and impressive work, tho.

Good point but, with the screws you get self contained mobility? .. you made me think of something.. should there be a washer or, at lease a raised area between the nut and the mold to limit the amount of friction between the two?

I waxed that area for that purpose. I don't think you want to get that tight with wooden threads tho

First pair of gars from Maks' mold. Makes a handy drying rack, dunnit?

Not super smooth yet, cause I think I need a quarter or half leaf more in each stick. Gotta get a better feel for the bulk. It can make an eight inch Churchill, so... it's hungry for leaves. These two are six inches. But, wait until they dry a bit & the wrapper tightens; then we'll know more. One olor binder leaf holding about three corojo filler leaves. Wrapped in Ecuador shade ligero. Totally an experiment. If it's tasy, I might stash a box of them, call them Uppowoc Pletnjas. Thinking of a band with a pic of one of them boats en route to the island on lake Bled. Unless Maks has a better idea.

Parejos are such a snap to make and this mold is such a snap to use.

I believe this mold and I are going to become the best of friends.

Do you need some sort of clamp/vise for these molds? I'd love to make good looking sticks from the start, but having nothing around here to actually clamp these things down.

Dumbbells, kegs, a desk, anything heavy works

Or pvc molds to start with while your learning the ropes

What do you have? Don't fill it up. don't over fill the bunch. Put one or two in it and sit on it.

Do any of you guys know if the molds from the H Upmann thing i won a couple weeks ago are legit? As in, could they be used?
The one I got, the head area didn't exactly line up but I was able to rotate it round to a degree. It's shaft is out of round. (oval) Not legit as far as how there made. you'll notice it is solid, were legit molds are pieced together. Can be used. I have but don't any more.

So you're saying that I shouldn't be bombing it to anyone?
